Advertise.com Expands Into Email
Sherman Oaks-based Advertise.com, the search marketing provider headed by Daniel Yomtobian, said Tuesday that it has expanded into email marketing. The firm said it has launched a new Email Content Network offering, which will connect advertisers ads with email updates to consumers. Network Automation Names CEO
Los Angeles-based Network Automation, a developer of IT business process automation software, announced today that it has named Gary Bishop as the firm's CEO. Founder and former CEO Dustin Snell becomes Chief Software Architect. Bishop was most recently founder and managing partner of mid-market advisory firm Entrada Associates. He also has served as CEO of PLX Systems and President at SunGard Treasury Systems.

MySpace Chops 47 Percent
Amid rumors for weeks that Los Angeles-based MySpace has been planning massive layoffs, the firm said today that it is cutting 47 percent of its staff globally, or roughly 400 employees. In a statement attributed to CEO Mike Jones and published on PaidContent, the firm said the moves were a result of its relaunch as an entertainment destination for Gen Y, and give the site a "clear path for sustained growth and profitability." AEi Systems Wins PerkinElmer GPS III Contract
Los Angeles-based AEi Systems, a provider of electrical circuit modeling, worst case, failure, and reliability analysis; and power systems analysis and design, said today that it has completed an analysis of PerkinElmer's Rubidium Atomic Frequency Standard (RAFS) a critical portion of the GPS III satellite program for the U.S. Air Force. Luxtera Sells Business Unit
Carlsbad-based Luxtera, the venture backed provider of CMOS photonics products, has sold its Active Optical Cable (AOC) business to Molex. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. Molex, a major supplier of cables and interconnects, announced the acquisition this morning, saying that the deal includes all aspects of Luxtera's existing and future AOC business, including its current Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable (QSFP+) 40Gbps Ethernet and Infiniband products and customers. Aerovironment Global Observer Makes Hydrogen-Powered Flight
Monrovia-based Aerovironment, which manufactures unmanned aircraft systems for the U.S. military, said today that the firm's Global Observer, endurance unmanned aircraft system has completed its first hydrogen-powered flight. The first flight was conducted at Edwards Air Force Base. Aerovironment's Global Observer is designed to provide continuous communications and coverage for the military, providing communications and remote imaging support similar to satellites, but for a much lower cost. Broadcom, CSR Settle Lawsuits
Irvine-based semiconductor maker Broadcom said late Monday that the firm has settled all litigation and legal proceedings with CSR, the parent firm of SiRF Technology, and including Broadcom's subsidiary Global Locate. The two did not discuss terms of the agreement, but did say they have agreed not to pursue infringement actions against each other, or against third parties based on each others' products, for a period of five years. World of Warcraft Cataclysm Hits New Sales Records
Irvine-based Blizzard Entertainment released its latest sales numbers for its new title, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm yesterday, saying that it has sold more than 4.7 million copies of the title in its first month of release. The firm said that sets a new record for monthly PC-game sales. The firm did not say what kind of financial impact those sales have had on the firm. WiSpry Opens Research Office In Denmark
Irvine-based WiSpry, which develops tunable, radio frequency (RF) semiconductors, announced today that it has opened up a new research and development office in Aalborg, Denmark. The new office is the firm's first internationally. San Diego-based VMIX, which provides online video and media management, said today that the firm has deployed its services in Europe and Asia, using Amazon Web Services.
