CyberDefender Open New LA Call Center
Los Angeles-based CyberDefender, the Internet security software provider run by Gary Guseinov, announced Thursday that it has opened up a new, 220-seat call center in its Los Angeles headquarters. The firm said it expects the center to be able to accommodate over 600 agents at full capacity. CyberDefender said its center is currently handling as many as 40,000 calls per week, for sales, technical support, and customer service. YouMail Trumpets App Download Numbers
Los Angeles-based YouMail, the enhanced voice mail service run by Alex Quilici, said Thursday that it seen over two million downloads on the Blackberry application store, Blackberry AppWorld. The firm--which allows users to provide personalized voice mail messages, transcriptions of voice mails, email notification, and other advanced voice mail features--said the downloads make it the among the most popular voice mail and utility applications in the app store. Gores Group Sells Lineage Power
Los Angeles-based private equity firm The Gores Group has sold portfolio firm Lineage Power, in a deal worth $520M. The deal was announced today by buyer GE, which said the acquisition will "open the door" for the firm to deploy its technology in the power conversion space. Lineage makes power rectifiers and other power supply related products. GE said Lineage had revenues of approximately $450M in 2010, and that the deal values the firm at eight time enterprise value based on 2011 EBITDA. Linea (More info...)

Clicker Rolls Out Chrome Extension
Los Angeles-based, the online video and television guide service headed by Jim Lanzone, said Wednesday that it has launched a new, software extension for the Google Chrome browser. According to Clicker, the new Clicker Chrome Extension allows users to search Clicker from their browser search bar, and find movie information, videos, and episodes available online.

Shopatron Updates Ecommerce Software
San Luis Obispo-based Shopatron, which develops e-commerce software for retailers, said today that it has made a major upgrade to its software. The firm said that Shopatron 3.0 provides an upgraded customer experience, targeted at increasing sales for its customers. Shopatron's customers include Callaway Golf, Suzuki, Polaroid, Mizuno, Ducati, JL Audio and Sport Chalet. The firm is headed by Ed Stevens, and is venture backed by Kern Whelan Capital and Rivenrock Capital.

San Diego-based Nirvanix, which operates a cloud storage service, said today that it has named Steve Zivanic as the firm's new Vice President of Marketing.
