Twitter Clamps Down On Third Party Clients
In a move which puts serious doubts into the strategy of Pasadena-based twitter client firm UberMedia, Twitter has updated its API terms, and said in a posting on its developer discussion group that it is looking to displace third-party, Twitter clients. The firm said, in a post, that developers have asked if "should build client apps that mimic or reproduce the mainstream Twitter consumer client experience. The answer is no." ShareSquare Rolls Out SXSW Contest
Los Angeles-based ShareSquare, the QR code startup headed by Matthias Galica, said Friday that it has launched a contest at SXSW. The firm said that it will be tracking all of the scans of its ShareSquare QR codes at SXSW, and will award the top five bands with a $6000 award package. ShareSquare is marketing its QR code service to musicians and entertainers. Paramount Links With Twitter On Movie Promotion
Paramount Pictures said this morning that it is launching a movie promotion for the film SUPER 8, in a partnership with Twitter. According to Paramount, the deal will offer up exclusive trailer premiers on the site on its account, @Super8Movie. SUPER 8's writer/director is J.J. Abrams, and the movie is being produced by Steven Spielberg. Paramount did not say what the business deal between it and Twitter is, and it's unclear how the effort is any different than the typical Twitter promotion. Par (More info...)

Online Retailers Lose Affiliate Tax Battle In Illinois
A battle in the war against online retailers has been lost in Illinois, after Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill yesterday taxing online retailers with affiliates in that state. The bill is the latest to target online retailers--in particular, Amazon.com--who use affiliate marketing to drive customers to their sites. UberMedia Links With Mashable On SXSW
Pasadena-based UberMedia, the third party Twitter client software firm headed by Bill Gross, said today that it has linked with blog site Mashable for a SXSW promotion. According to the two, they've created a UberGuide to SXSW section in its clients, UberSocial and Twidroyd, which will features tweets from Mashable's staff on the ground at the conference.
