iStoryTime, Yoplait In Promotion
Los Angeles-based iStoryTime, the publisher of children's books for the iPhone and iPad, said today that it has partnered with yogurt brand Yoplait Kids on a giveaway of its books. According to iStoryTime, it will offer six free children's books for the iPad and iPhone for parents. Financial details of the promotion were not disclosed. iStoryTime's apps also run on iPod Touch and Android devices.

Demand Media Opens TypeF
Santa Monica-based Demand Media has opened up access to its new fashion and beauty website, TypeF.com, which it has partnered with Tyra Banks to develop, the firm said today. According to Demand Media, the new site will "empower women of all shapes, sizes and styles" to discover their unique look. Demand Media and Bankable, Tyra Banks' development firm, announced the deal to create TypeF in February. Demand Media had said it would be opening the site today earlier.

2tor Finds $32.5M
New York-based 2tor, the online education startup which powers online degree programs from the University of Southern California (USC) and others, has raised $32.5M in a Series C funding. Greg Martin, of Los Angeles-based Archer Venture Capital, sits on 2tor's board. The funding came from Highland Capital, Redpoint Ventures, Novak Biddle Venture Partners, and CityLight. 2tor also has operations near USC.

On-Ramp Wireless Adds Viterbi As Advisor
San Diego-based On-Ramp Wireless, a developer of wireless networking technology for device communications, said today that it has added Qualcomm co-founder Andrew Viterbi to its Strategic Advisory Board. Viterbi was co-founder of Qualcomm, and is currently president of the Viterbi Group. He is also a visiting professor at the University of Southern California, and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

THQ's Homefront Hits Retailers
Agoura Hills-based THQ said today that its newest gaming title, Homefront, has hit retail stores. The war game--set in the U.S. after an imagined invasion by North Korea--was developed by Kaos Studios, and runs on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Windows PCs. THQ has recently been promoting the game through Los Angeles and other parts of California with a rigged up "Pyongyang Express" food truck. The game includes online, multi-player elements.

Amgen Donates $1M For Japanese Disaster Relief
Thousand Oaks-based biotech giant Amgen said late Monday that it is donating $1M to the Japanese disaster relief efforts. Amgen said the funds will go to Direct Relief International and the International Medical Corps. The funds come both from Amgen and the Amgen Foundation. The firm said it has longtime links to Japanese companies, and particularly its partnerships with Kirin Holding, Kyowa Hakko Kirin, Takeda Pharmaceuticals, and Daiichi Sankyo.

LiveOffice Names COO
Torrance-based LiveOffice, which provides cloud-based email archiving and compliance software, announced today that it has named Jeffrey W. Hausman as its Chief Operating Officer. Hausman was most recently at HP, where he was leading the firm's HP StorageWorks Nearline organization. Hausman has also served at Symantec, Veritas, and Booz & Co.

SYSPRO Partners With Sales Tax Software Firm
Costa Mesa-based SYSPRO, which developer enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, said today that it has partnered with sales tax software firm Avalara. According to the two, they are in a strategic partnership which will provide sales tax calculation and filing integrated with SYSPRO's ERP software. Details of the strategic partnership were not disclosed.

TriLink Gets SBIR
San Diego-based TriLink BioTechnologies, a biotech startup working on technology for improving PCR processes, said this morning that it has received a $100,000 Phase I, SBIR Grant from the National Institutes of Health. The firm said the funding will go to develop a "hot start" approach for ligase chain reaction (LCR). The firm said the new funding is the fifth, Phase I grant it has received.
