No Google Autocompleter Openings In SoCal
In one of its April Fool's jokes, search engine giant Google has posted a job position--and accompanying YouTube recruitment video--for a "Google Autocompleter", to predict what users are searching for on the web. In the tongue-in-cheek video, a "Google Autocompleter" says on a good day, he averages over 32,000 words per minute trying to anticipate what users are looking for on the web. Hulu's April Fool Joke: 1996 Web Design
Visitors to Los Angeles-based video streaming service Hulu Friday were greeted with a surprise "redesign" of the web site, as part of a Hulu April Fool's gag. Users who logged into Hulu of Friday saw a Geocities-inspired, framed browser view featuring such notable 1990's shows as the X Files, Sliders, Murder One, and News Radio -- not to mention tacky, 1996-eras web design and highlighted links to the A-Team and Saturday Night Live. GotCast Gets More Funding
Santa Monica-based GotCast, the online casting and talent site run by Alec Shankman, told its supporters this morning that it has raised a new round of venture capital funding. In an email, Shankman said that the firm closed a round of additional venture capital funding through NCT Ventures. The firm will use the funding to add to its staff. Amount of the funding was not disclosed.

Hulu Updates Roku Software
Los Angeles-based Hulu said last night that it has updated its Hulu Plus on the Roku software. According to Hulu, the updated software adds improved playback reporting, UI tweaks, as well as a number of bug fixes. Roku is a hardware device which allows users to stream TV shows and movies from Hulu Plus, Netflix, Amazon, and other services. The new version of Hulu PLus on Roku is 1.9.

Teledyne Buys Stake In Optech
Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies said this morning that it has acquired a minority stake in Optech, a developer of three dimensional, lidar-based imaging systems. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Teledyne said the investment was made through its subsidiary, Teledyne DALSA. Optech is based in Vaughan, Ontario. Its systems are used in airborne terrestrial mapping and space exploration.
