BirchStreet Systems Names Sales VP
Newport Beach-based BirchStreet Systems, a developer of software used for electronic procurement, said Wednesday that it has named Bill Hirsch as Vice President of Sales, North America. Hirsch has previously served at BuyEfficient, Choice Hotels International, HD Supply and Ramada Franchise Systems. Hirsch will report to Sushil Garg, CEO and Chairman of BirchStreet.

Technicolor Backs Video Search Firm
Technicolor, the provider of services to the motion picture, television, and media industry, has backed a North Carolina technology firm developing video search and discovery products. Durham, N.C.-based Digitalsmiths said that it has closed on $12.5M in a funding round, led by Technicolor, and including prior investors .406 Ventures, Aurora Funds, Chrysalis Ventures, Capitol Broadcasting and Cisco. Study Casts Doubt On Green Vehicle Demand
Despite a huge amount of funding given to electric and hybrid vehicle manufacturers by venture capitalists, a new study from Westlake Village-based J.D. Power and Associates finds that the outlook for "green" vehicles will remained "limited" for some time. J.D. TrueCar: More Than $1B Saved For Consumers
Santa Monica-based TrueCar, the automotive software and purchasing service headed by Scott Painter, claims this morning that it has saved more than $1 billion for car consumers. The firm, which provides software which allows users to configure and select automobiles with pre-negotiated discounts, said those savings came from the over 270,000 cars which have been sold through its auto-buying platform. Qualcomm Releases Augmented Reality Software For Android
San Diego-based Qualcomm has released a platform for developing augmented reality (AR) software for Android, the firm announced this morning. The firm said the software, available via its beta program, allows users to build, market, and distribute applications based on its Qualcomm AR platform. Viddy Gets $1.6M For Mobile Video Sharing Software
Venice, California-based Viddy, a new startup developing mobile video tools, said today that it has raised $1.6M in a first round of financing, and launched a mobile video creation and sharing tool for the iPhone. the funding round came from Battery Ventures, Bessemer Ventures, Qualcomm, and angel investors including Jarl Mohn and early team members from YouTube. Nirvanix Rolls Cloud Storage Migration Tools
San Diego-based Nirvanix, the provider of cloud storage services, said this morning that it has rolled out a new data migration tool, specifically at helping users migrate data from other cloud service providers. The company said its new cloud Sideloader technology will help customers migrate files from cloud service providers such as Iron Mountain and Amazon to its own online data storage service. Service-now.com Names Slootman CEO
San Diego-based Service-now.com, a provider of It management software-as-a-service, said Tuesday that it has named Frank Slootman as CEO. Founder Fred Luddy becomes Chief Product Officer. Slootman was the CEO of Data Domain, having taken that firm public in 2007, and selling the firm to EMC in 2009, where he served as a division executive. He also has served at Compuware and Borland Software.

Music Reports Signs Omnifone
Woodland Hills-based Music Reports, a provider of music royalty tracking and reporting services, said today that it has linked with cloud music provider Omnifone. The comapny said it will manage mechanical licensing and royalty reporting for Omnifone's MusicStation Platform in the United States. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. StockTwits Names COO
San Diego-based StockTwits, the online social media service focused on trading stock tips and information, has named Francisc Costello as Chief Operating Officer. Costello was most recently COO at Veoh Networks, and has also served at Akonix Systems, Entrypoint, and McKinsey & Company. StockTwits is headed by Howard Lindzon, and allows users to share real-time information about stocks and finances.
