Friday, May 6, 2011MashOn Gets $620KLos Angeles-based MashOn, a firm providing web-based personalization and brand marketing services, has raised $620,000 in a funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm Friday. The filing indicates the funding is part of an ongoing $1.5M fundraising effort. MashOn develops web software, e-commerce tools, plus digital agency to clients; the firm says its has a team of 25 professionals. Source of the new funding was not disclosed. MashOn's CEO is Philippe Benolief.

Sony To Provide $1M Identity Theft Protection For Users After AttackHoward Stringer, the CEO of Sony, said in a letter released Friday to Sony's Playstation Network that the firm will provide a $1M identity theft insurance policy per user for its U.S. PlayStation Network and Qrocity customers, after a devastating cyber-attack on the firm's services. Stringer, apologizing to customers, said that the firm will also offer a free month of PLayStation Plus membership for all PSN customers, and an extension of subscriptions for its PlayStation Plus and Music Unlimited (More info...)

Broadcom's Samueli Re-Joins BoardIrvine-based semiconductor maker Broadcom announced this morning that it has bolstered its board, with co-founder Henry Samueli and Harvey Mudd College President Maria Klawe joining the company's board. Samueli has previously served on the firms board, most recently as Chairman. a position he served in until May of 2008. Klawe is the President of Claremont-based Harvey Mudd college, and also has been Dean of Engineering and Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University.
