Otonomy Ups Funding By $14.2M
San Diego-based Otonomy, a firm developing products to treat disorders of the inner and middle ear, looks to have pulled in $14.2M more in a tranched financing which was originally announced last August, according to a regulatory filing by the firm this week. According to the filing, the firm has now raised $24.2M out of a $38.8M round. That Series B round had been announced in August, but it appears that the whole round is now coming piecemeal via a tranched financing, based on its filings. In (More info...)

BLANKSPACES Set To Bring New Coworking Space To Santa Monica
Los Angeles-based BLANKSPACES , the coworking space run by Jerome Chang, is getting set to open up a second location in Santa Monica in the next week, along 2nd street. The coworking operator said it will have over 20 offices and 65 workstations in its new location near the 3rd Street Promenade, located in an area populated by a number of early stage startups, venture capitalists, and others in the high tech business. Startup Kurion Deploys Technology At Fukushima
An Irvine-based startup, backed by Lux Capital and Firelake Capital Management, said this week that it is deploying its technology to the embattled Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, to help support water cleanup at the plant's nuclear reactor. According to Kurion, it has completed initial delivery of "several hundred tons of equipment" to remove radioactivity from contaminated water at the plant. Evolve Media, AdColony In Mobile Ad Partnership
Los Angeles-based Evolve Media Corp and fellow Los Angeles online ad firm >b>AdColony, which is a division of Jirbo, said yesterday that the two are in a partnership deal. The two said that the deal will combine Evolve's online ad sales force with AdColony's mobile ad network. The two did not reveal other details of the arrangement. Gaikai Powers Game Site
Los Angeles-based Gaikai, the cloud-based game streaming service backed by Benchmark Capital, TriplePoint Capital, Rustic Canyon Partners, Limelight Networks and Intel Capital, said Thursday that it is powering a game site, "The Escapist". Gaikai said that "The Escapist" will use its platform to stream demos of games like Electronic Arts Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect 2 to game players, with other major video game publishers making their titles available through the site. iRise Dangles $20K To Developers
El Segundo-based iRise, the developer of enterprise application visualization software, said Thursday that it is launching a $20,000 Developer Contest. iRise said the contest will award $20,000 to developers who create custom widgets for the iRise software modeling environment. Nine prizes, ranging from $500 to $2000 each, will be awarded, for the creation of "iBloc" widgets for the iRise software.
