Gamzee Gets Seed Funding
Los Angeles-based Gamzee, a developer of HTML5 and mobile/social games, announced Thursday that it has raised $1M in a seed round of funding. The funding came from Bristol Investment Fund, Ltd; Jarl Mohn, the former CEO of Liberty Digital and former board member at Riot Games; Heiko Hubertz, founder and CEO of Bigpoint, and Paul Bricault, a Venture Partner at Greycroft Partners. Report: Solar Power Set To Challenge Fossil Fuels In Next 10 Years
A report this week from the IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, says that photovoltaic power has the potential to become the most, economical form of generating electricity, compared to even traditional, fossil fuels, within the next 10 years. According to the industry group, the cost parity will come from improved efficiency of solar PV cell technologies, and economies of scale in manufacturing. Venice, California-based Tecca, the online and mobile, consumer information and review service backed by Best Buy, said today that it has bolstered its board and added a slew of executives to the company. Achates Power Adds CTO
San Diego-based Achates Power, the developer of improved internal combustion engine technology, said today that it has named John Koszewnik as Chief Technical Officer. Koszewnik was previously at FEV, and also served at Ford Motor for roughly 30 years. Achates Power is venture backed by Sequoia Capital Partners, Rockport Capital Partners, Madrone Capital Partners, InterWest Partners and Triangle Peak Partners.

Wavien Powers LED Projector
Valencia-based Wavien, a developer of LED light projector technology, said today that its light engines are being used by AAXA Technologies in a new projector. Wavien said the 1,000 lumen projector provides greater brightness than other LED projectors, and has a lifetime of 25,000 hours. The firm is aiming its technology at home theater projectors, and small classroom and conference rooms. Synthetic Genomics Names CFO
La Jolla-based Synthetic Genomics, which is using genomics to develop biofuels and other synthetic genomic technology, said Wednesday that it has named Joseph Mahler as its Chief Financial Officer. The firm, which is led by genomics pioneer J. Craig Venter, said that Mahler joins the firm from FuelCell Energy. Mahler has also served at Earthgro and Ernst & Young.

GamersFirst Buys Fallen Earth
Irvine-based GamersFirst, the online, multiplayer game site owned by K2 Network, said today that it has acquired the massively multiplayer online game (MMO) Fallen Earth. GamersFirst said it acquired the MMO from Fallen Earth, LLC, and has hired the 12-person creative team behind the game. That team is joining GamersFirst's development studio, Reloaded Productions. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
