Gotcast Powers Maxim Magazine Contest
Santa Monica-based GotCast is powering a campaign for Maxim Magazine, using its new contest platform, MediaBlastr. The firm is powering the "Maximum Warrior" contest for the magazine, which is looking find readers willing to train on firearm and driving skills, competing against ten special operations veterans. Google Reportedly In Talks To Buy Hulu
A report Friday from the Los Angeles Times says that Google is in preliminary talks to buy Los Angeles-based Hulu. According to the LA Times--citing "people familiar with the situtation"--Hulu has also been shopped to Microsoft Corp. and Yahoo Inc. Hulu has reportedly retained investment banks Morgan Stanley and Guggenheim Partners to shop the firm.

Avalon Ventures, Jeffrey Katzenberg To Benefit From Zynga IPO
San Francisco-based social games maker Zynga, the firm behind the popular FarmVille Facebook game, filed for an IPO Friday, with several Southern California investors potentially beneficiaries of any future IPO success. According to Zynga, it is looking to raise up to $1 billion on the public markets. Report: FTC Investigating Twitter Over UberMedia Actions
A report today says that the Federal Trade Commission is investigating Twitter, over its dealings with third party client application makers like Pasadena-based Ubermedia. The report says that the FTC has requested information from UberMedia and others. UberMedia is the Twitter client applications firm backed by Idealab, which suffered a near shutdown in February when Twitter shut off the ability to access Twitter to UberMedia's client apps.
