Core Performance Opens Tech Dev Center In Hollywood
Core Performance, a venture backed sports and corporate wellness company backed by Polaris Venture Partners, has opened up an office in Hollywood, to house its technology operations. According to Jon Zerden, the company's CTO, the firm is aggressively hiring for technology and product positions at the new location. Core Performance is based in Tempe, Arizona. LA Angels, T-Mobile Team On Tablet Rentals
Looking to try out a new tablet, but not ready to shell out for one? Wireless carrier T-Mobile USA said Friday that it is partnering with the Los Angeles Angels, to rent out tablets at the Angel Stadium in Anaheim. According to T-Mobile, it will rent out tablets to Angels fans, for $10.00 a day. T-Mobile will offer up the Samsung Galaxy Tab and 4G T-Mobile G-Slate, with free access to premium Zinio magazines like ESPN, mobile TV from MobiTV, and a special "game day" program. Wildcat Discovery Technologies Raises $6.85M
San Diego-based Wildcat Discovery Technologies, a firm developing advanced materials for the clean technology industry, has raised $6.85M out of an ongoing $7.5M funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm this week. The firm has previously raised funding from CMEA Ventures, 5AM Ventures, and Virgin Green Fund. Source of the new funding has not yet been announced, however, representatives from all of the firm's prior investors continue to hold board seats at the company.

Elevance Renewable Sciences Raises $50M More
Elevance Renewable Sciences, the spinout of Pasadena-based Materia, has scored $50M more in a funding round, according to a regulatory filing by the firm this week. Elevance Renewable Sciences is developing processes to take plant-based oils and turn them into specialty chemicals. Elevance spun out of Materia in March of 2008, and had previously raised at least $140M in funding. Diversion Gets Series B For Social Games
Los Angeles-based Diversion Inc., a developer of social games, said today that it has scored a Series B strategic funding round. Size of the round was not announced. The firm said the investment was led by TomorrowVentures, hearts Corporation, and Michael Eisner's Tornante Company. Marcy Casey, who produced The Cosby Show and That 70's Show, as well as venture capitalist Art Bilger also participated in the round. Social Gaming Firm MXP4 Opens Office In Los Angeles
MXP4, a developer of social, music games, announced Friday that it has opened up an office in Los Angeles. The venture-backed game developer is backed by Orkos Capital, Sofinnova Partners and Ventech. The firm--whose flagship game is Bopler Games--said it selected the location due to its importance to the music industry. LA Leads In Green Jobs, Says Group
A study released this morning by the Californians for Clean Energy and Jobs Network says that Los Angeles leads the nation in green jobs. According to the CCEJ, Los Angeles had 178,500 green jobs, out of roughly 4.5 million workers in the LA region. Green jobs represented about 3.9 percent of total employment in the region. Apple Bids For Hulu, Says Report
In the latest rumor swirling around Los Angeles-based video streaming site Hulu, a number of reports last night say that Apple Computer is now bidding for the firm. The report came from Bloomberg, which cited "two people with knowledge of the auction". So far, Hulu apparently has been shopped to Yahoo, AT&T, Microsoft, and Google.

Calient Technologies Raises $4.38M
Goleta-based Calient Technologies, a developer of optical switching equipment based on 3D MEMS technology, has raised $4.38M in new funding. The funding came to light via the most recently, PricewaterhouseCoopers/NVCA MoneyTree survey. Details on the funding have not been announced by the company. Calient Technologies has previously raised funding from Telesoft Partners. The firm is headed by Atiq Raza.

Shopatron Signs Chromax Golf
San Luis Obispo-based Shopatron, the developer of e-commerce software, is powering the online retailing efforts of multi-colored golf ball manufacturer Chromax Golf, the firm yesterday. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Shopatron said it built and is hosting the Chromax e-commerce website, including integration with the Chromax Facebook page.

CoreLogic Adds Folino To Board
Paul Folino, the executive chairman of Emulex, has just joined the board of directors of Santa Ana-based CoreLogic. CoreLogic announced the appointment Thursday. Folino also sits on the board of Microsemi, in additinon to his role at Emulex. CoreLogic offers up data to the real estate, mortgage, and financial industries, providing mortgage and automotive credit reporting, property tax, valuation, flood determination, and geospatial analytics and services.
