Mindspeed Buys IPG Communications
Newport Beach-based Mindspeed Technologies said Monday afternoon that it has acquired "substantially all" of the assets of San Diego-based IPG Communications. IPG is a developer of signal processing technology for the wideband code division multiple access (W-CDMA) market. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed.

THQ Sets Deepak Chopra Title Release
Agoura Hills-based videogame maker THQ is diverging from the usual, first-person-shooter and action games genre with its latest title, saying Monday that it will be publishing a new title from author Deepak Chopra. THQ said that the new title, Leela, is focused on creating "an interactive journey of mind and body" tapping into Chopra's philosophy and the features of the Xbox 360 Kinect and Wii. Bevvy Takes On Nightclub Deals
Hollywood-based Bevvy.com, an invite-only site providing preferred pricing on bars and clubs, launched Monday, saying that it will provide a "Priceline for nightlife." The startup offers up 50% discounts on nightlife venues after a $10 reservation fee. Bevvy is headed by Niall Donnelly. Livestrong.com Trumpets Apps Milestone
Santa Monica-based LIVESTRONG.COM, the health and wellness site run by Demand Media, is trumpeting two pieces of app news today. The firm said that 10,000 people have quite smoking using its MyQuit Coach application, a smartphone app to help users quit smoking; and, the firm said it is making its LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker app free for Windows phones. EdgeCast Reports Customer, Traffic Growth
Santa Monica-based EdgeCast, the content delivery network provider, is reporting this morning that it now has more than 3,000 customers using its services. The company said it is now carrying 4 percent of global Internet traffic, serving around 1.5 billion objects per hour via its network. EdgeCast said around 1,000 of those customers were added in the last six months, and included ShoeDazzle, Yellowbook, and AllSaints.

Qualcomm Buys Gesture Recognition Technology
San Diego-based Qualcomm announced this morning that it has acquired a number of gesture recognition assets from GestureTek, a developer of gesture recognition technology. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Qualcomm said the acquisition would give it ownership of intellectual property related to gesture recognition, plus engineering resources. Citrix GoToTraining Adds Social Features
The Santa Barbara-based arm of Citrix Systems, which develops GoToMeeting and other online communications and sharing software, said today that it ad tied its GoToTraining training software with Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. LegalZoom Finds $66M From KPCB, IVP
The investment by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Institutional Venture Partners into legal documents firm LegalZoom was worth $66M, according to a report today. Fallbrook Expands Joint Venture
San Diego-based Fallbrook Technologies, the designer of transmissions used in electric vehicles, said today along with EV manufacturers Tomberlin Group and TEAM Industries, that they are expanding their joint venture activities. The firms said that they are expanding a January, 2011 joint venture where Tomberlin will use Fallbrook's technology in its Anvil electric city car. MINDBODY Powers SpaFinder
San Luis Obispo-based MINDBODY, the developer of online software for the health and wellness industry, reported Friday that SpaFinder is using its software for its online booking engine. Financial details of the deal were not announced. The two said that SpaFinder has been displaying MINDBODY's inventory of fitness, Yoga, Pilates, and martial art studios on the site since February, but just added online booking last week. Mindspeed Wins OKI
Newport Beach-based Mindspeed Technologies, the provider of networking semiconductors, said today that it has scored a win with OKI Electric Industry. The firm said its Comcerto processors have been selected to create an ultra-low-power home gateway device by OKI. Shipment volumes and financial details of the win were not announced.
