Lawmakers Look To Undermine Amazon Effort
In the aftermath of the June move by California to tax Amazon.com and other out-of-state, online retailers, legislators are apparently looking to implement an "urgency bill" which would nullify Amazon.com's efforts to organize a referendum on the issue. According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, lawmakers are in the midst of a bill which would effectively prevent a referendum on the sales tax. Amazon.com has been in the midst of organizing a California referendum to overturn the sales tax (More info...)

Miva Merchant Buys Instructional Video Site
San Diego-based Miva Merchant, the provider of e-commerce software, said this morning that it has acquired MerchantTutorials.com, a website featuring videos about Miva's own e-commerce software. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Miva Merchant said it acquired the site from founder and owner Chuck Lasker. The company said Lasker will continue creating videos for the tutorial site.

RealD, Disney In Lion King 3D Glasses Promotion
Los Angeles-based 3D movie technology provider RealD, and Walt Disney Pictures said today that the two are in an effort to provide limited edition 3D glasses in conjunction with the 3D release of "The Lion King". The two said they are providing kids' 3D glasses with a Simba theme, which will be distributed at theaters for free with purchase of a child's ticket. RealD is a provider of 3D movie projection equipment, and associated 3D eyewear. Financial details of the promotion deal between the two (More info...)

Quest Software, Quantum Tie On VMware Backup
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software said Thursday that it has certified its vRanger VMware backup software with Quantum. According to Quest, its VMware backup software now works with Quantum's DXi Series deduplication appliances. Quantum's appliances are used to reduce network traffic over WaN links; Quest siad the move will help its customer automate backups across those WANs, reducing the amount of bandwidth needed for those backups.
