Row 44 Inks In-Flight, MLB Streaming Deal
Westlake Village-based Row 44, the supplier of in-flight entertainment and broadband equipment to the airline industry, said Tuesday that it has partnered with MLB Advanced Media, to deliver live streaming video and audio in-flight. Row 44 said the deal will make Major League Baseball video and audio to commercial airline customers who are using the company's In-Flight Broadband Entertainment Platform. SwoopThat Expands Textbook Shopping Service
La Jolla-based SwoopThat, an online comparison search site for textbooks, said today that it has expanded its course search technology on the site, making it easier for students to save on textbooks. JMI Equity Backs DoubleVerify In $33M Funding
La Jolla-based private equity firm JMI Equity has made a big investment in online advertising verification firm DoubleVerify, leading a $33M funding round in the New York company. According to DoubleVerify, the investment funding for the company came from JMI Equity, Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), as well as previous investors Blumberg Capital and First Round Capital. AnyMeeting Makes Webinars Pay
Huntington Beach-based AnyMeeting, the free, online web conferencing and webinar service run by Costin Tuculescu, has launched a new feature which allows anyone to sell tickets to their webinars. EdgeCast Joins Google, Others On DNS Effort
Santa Monica-based content deliver network provider EdgeCast Networks said today that it has joined with OpenDNS and Google, as well as a number of other CDNs, to speed up the handling of domain name system (DNS) request on the Internet. According to EdgeCast, the support for the new standard--which embeds a portion of a user's IP address into DNS requests--will help speed up Internet access for users. ConjuChem, a biotechnology firm focused on developing medicines based on therapeutics peptides, said today that it has relaunched the company, and is now based in Los Angeles under the management of Patrick Soon-Shiong, M.D. The firm, which was previously based in Montreal, Canada, was acquired by billionaire Soon-Shiong in 2010. Qualcomm Links With Wireless Education Effort In India
San Diego-based Qualcomm said today that it has linked with the Sesame Workshop India, to provide mobile phones to boost the education of children of migrants in India. The project provides mobile phones to children of migrant workers, allowing them to access radio broadcasts, educational materials, videos, songs, stories, and more via 3G, based on "Galli Galli Sim Sim", the Indian version of Sesame Street. Paragon Software Deploys Into Space
Irvine-based Paragon Software Group, the developer of backup and disaster recovery software, reports today that the firm's software is now orbiting the Earth on the International Space Station. According to Paragon, the firm's software had been selected by NASA prime bioastronautics contractor Wyle, to serve as the primary backup and recovery software for an ultrasound system which was launched on Atlantis in July. Newport Beach-based JustEnough Software, a developer of inventory and demand management software for retailers, said today that it has launched a new product. The firm said its new Mobile Sales Force Automation SuiteApp, built on top of NetSuite, provides access to opportunity/customer data, sales forecasts, and real-time calendar and task management. Kofax Names VP
Irvine-based Kofax, the developer of document capture software, said this morning that it has named Phillip Jones as its new Vice President of Field Enablement. Jones has previously served at IBM and FileNet. Kofax said the new position will focus on its field sales and service.
