UberMedia Powers App For The Economist Group
Pasadena-based UberMedia, the developer of Twitter client applications, said Thursday that it has partnered with the publisher of The Economist to power a new desktop application and curated channel Idea People Media, The Economist Group's vertical ad network business. UberMedia said that the two will launch a custom desktop application, and a curated "UberChannel" within its UberSocial smartphone app, based on content from the network of Ideas People Media. Celerus Diagnostics Ups Series C To $10M
Carpinteria-based Celerus Diagnostics, a developer of pathology analysis equipment, has now raised $10M in a Series C funding, according to a regulatory filing from the firm Thursday. Details on the funding have not been released by the company. The company's systems are used for rapid cancer diagnosis. Celerus has previously raised funding from Great Pacific Capital (now Persistence Partners) and Merriman Curhan Ford & Co. Boingo Goes Live At The Grove, Americana At Brand
Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless, the Wi-Fi network operator, said Thursday afternoon that its network at The Grove and The Americana at Brand, the two Los Angeles shopping centers owned by Caruso Affiliated, is now live. Caruso and Boingo had announced in May a deal to provide wireless in the two locations. BAE Systems Sells Ceramics Facilities In Vista
BAE Systems has sold its advanced ceramics facilities in Vista, California, to ceramics manufacturer CoorsTek, the firms said Thursday. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. According to the two companies, CoorsTek has acquired three facilities in Vista, totaling 106,000 square feet. Those facilities had been acquired by BAE Systems in June of 2005, through its acquisition of United Defense, Inc. MeLLmo Scores $30M For Roambi
San Diego-based MeLLmo, the developer of the Roambi mobile business apps for the iPhone and iPad, said Thursday afternoon that it has raised $30M in a first round of institutional funding. The round was led by Sequoia Capital. The firm said that it has added Sequoia's Greg McAdoo to its board, and Sequoia's David Spector as a board observer at the company as part of the funding. Oversee Cuts Jobs
Los Angeles-based Oversee.net, the operator of domain name and online marketing businesses, reported this morning that it has cut its workforce by 13 percent. According to the firm, the realignment is a part of a plan to address new growth opportunities. Oversee.net did not detail its exact plans. King.com Debuts Bubble Witch Saga
Los Angeles- and London-based casual gaming developer King.com said Thursday that it has launched a new Facebook game, Bubble Witch Saga. According to King.com, the newest title was launched in the run up to Halloween, and focuses on bursting bubbles around a witch's cauldron. King.com said it now has over 200 games running online, via Facebook, on mobile, and tablets. King.com is headed by Riccardo Zacconi.

Bandsintown Acquired By Cellfish
San Diego-based Bandsintown, the developer of a live concert tracking and discovery application for Facebook, has been acquired by Cellfish, a mobile and social applications publisher, the firms said today. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Bandsintown helps fans track their favorite artists and concert dates, and says it has over 3.4 million music fans using its apps. Edmunds.com Opens Auto Pricing, Specs API
Looking to tap into the developer community, Santa Monica-based car information site Edmunds.com said today that it has opened up a new application programming interface (API), which will allow software developers to access its full database of new car and used car specification and pricing. Central Desktop Names Product VP
Pasadena-based Central Desktop, the provider of cloud-based project and collaboration software, announced today that it has named Kristy McKnight as its Vice President of Products. McKnight joins the company from Telecommunications Systems, Inc., the firm which acquired Networks in Motion, and also has served at Match.com, Intuit, and Arthur Andersen. Club Penguin Launches iPhone Game, Puffle Launch
Burbank-based Club Penguin, the online virtual world for kids that is owned by Disney, has launched its first iPhone app, Puffle Launch. Club Penguin said the new all--which runs on iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad--is based on an in-game title of the same name which runs within Club Penguin. The new title costs $0.99 in the App store. Verve Opens New York Office, Expands Sales Team
Encinitas-based Verve Wireless, the developer of mobile applications for the local media and newspaper business, is expanding its sales efforts, saying today that it has opened up a New York office, and also dramatically expanded its national sales team. CODA Holdings Buys EnergyCS
Los Angeles-based CODA Holdings, the developer of electric vehicles, announced this morning that it has acquired Monrovia-based EnergyCS, a developer of battery management systems. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced.
