Chill Adds Private Chat, Social Game Features
Los Angeles-based Chill, the social video startup which allows users to chat while watching video content, announced today that it has added a number of features to the service. According to the company, it has launched new, private chat features, rich "hovercard" information on other users, and new social game features on the service. ValueClick Media Opens Two New Offices
Westlake Village-based ValueClick Media, the ad targeting division of ValueClick, said today that it has opened up two new offices. The firm said it has opened up an office in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Phoenix, Arizona. The firm said the move was made to serve clients and agencies in the two markets, with Minneapolis representing a $1 billion online advertising and $300M mobile marketing opportunity by the end of 2011. X1 Updates iPhone, iPad Apps
Pasadena-based X1, the desktop and enterprise search tools provider backed by Idealab, said Tuesday that it has launched new iPhone and iPad apps. X1's new apps allow users of its software to search for information and files directly from those mobile devices, and is now free. X1 previously was selling its X1 Mobile Search software for $19.99 on the App store. X1's software indexes the content in email, documents, files, ZIP archives, and more.

Sony Sees Another Massive Hack Attempt
Sony reported last night that it has detected another, massive hacking attack on its Sony Entertainment Network, PlayStation Network, and Sony Online Entertainment, which it said affected approximately 93,000 accounts on the services. Sony, which runs its online services out of San Diego, said hackers attempted to test a "massive set" of sign-in IDs and passwords against its database, which had been gathered by hackers from compromised lists from other web sites. WD Hit By Flooding In Thailand
Irvine-based Western Digital reports this morning that its hard drive production in Thailand has been hit by severe flooding. According to WD, production from its facilities close to Bangkok "will be constrained" in the current quarter, due to impact of those floods on the region's infrastructure, it's employees, and transportation. WD said that it shipped approximately 54 million hard drives from its facilities in Thailand and Malaysia, with about 60 percent coming from Thailand. WD has over 37 (More info...)

Nirvanix In OEM Deal With IBM
San Diego-based Nirvanix, the provider of cloud storage services, has inked a deal with IBM, where IBM will use Nirvanix cloud storage technology as part of IBM's SmartCloud Enterprise storage services. According to the two companies, IBM will include cloud storage technology from Nirvanix, allowing its users to upload files to the cloud for access from anywhere in the world. Unified Dispatch Acquired By Transportation Firm
Altadena-based Unified Dispatch, a provider of fleet management and booking systems for the taxi and transportation market, has been acquired by a unit of Veolia Transportation, the owner of SuperShuttle, ExecuCar, and other transportation services.
