Fisker Auto: Karma Getting 112MPG In Tests
Anaheim-based Fisker Automotive reported this week that it has completed extended range testing and certification, finding that the firm's Karma is achieving 112 mpg combined fuel economy. Fisker said the independent testing was by Technischer Ueberwachungs Verein (TUV), Europe's recognized automotive certification agency. Paperlinks Adds Takeout Via QR Codes
Los Angeles-based Paperlinks, the QR code startup headed by Hamilton Chan, said this week that it has launched a new product, which uses QR codes to enable customers to order from takeout menus. The firm said that its new Order Takeout functionality allows restaurants to QR-enable takeout menus, allowing users to order their food by simply tapping on their phones. Southern Californian, US Entrepreneurs Visit 10 Downing Street
Dressed in suits with questions and passports in hand, a delegation of over 15 US entrepreneurs and investors--including a number from Southern California--entered the seat of the British government at 10 Downing Street Thursday. 10 Downing Street is the equivalent of the White House here in the United States. Scripps Institute, IBM Look To PCs to Cure Malaria With Jeopardy Winnings
La Jolla-based biomedical research nonprofit Scripps Research Institute and IBM said this morning that they are looking for the public's help, in volunteering to donate their computer time to help a new effort to cure malaria, funded by IBM Watson's $1M prize from Jeopardy!. According to the two, they are encouraging anyone with a personal computer to join the World Community Grid, which will crunch numbers and perform simulations to help fight malaria. AT&T Wireless Expands Mobile Broadband At LAX
Wireless carrier AT&T said Thursday that it is expecting brisk demand for broadband coverage at LAX over the holidays, and has expanded its mobile coverage at the airport as a result. AT&T--promising faster speeds and increased reliability at LAX--said it had activated "several" new cell sites at LAX, aimed a providing better coverage and capacity in such areas as check-in and security locations and baggage areas. AT&T did not say how many cell sites it is adding at the airport.

Riot's League Of Legends Hits 11M Active Players
Los Angeles-based Riot Games, which develops online video games aimed at hard core gamers, said today that its title, League of Legends, has reached 11.5 million monthly active players, with over 30 million registered players on the game. Riot said the numbers are double what they were in July. Riot Games is now part of Chinese gaming giant Tencent, which acquired the company in February.

Celerus Diagnostics Gains Patents
Carpinteria-based Celerus Diagnostics, which develops cancer diganostics equipment for pathologists, announced today that it has been issued three patents from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The firm said the patents cover key technology behind its Rapid IHC system for immunohistochemistry. Celerus did not say what three patents it was issued.
