TrueCar Updates Used Car Valuation Site
Santa Monica-based TrueCar, the car pricing and information site, said Monday that it has updated its ClearBook used car valuation site. ClearBook was originally launched in February. TrueCar said the updated, ClearBook 2.0 service provides expected sale price, recommended list price, and trade-in price for "tens of thousands" of makes and models of vehicles, and pulls data from current sales from across the country; prices are derived from used car values in a user's individual zip code. H2Scan Raises $5.5M
Valencia-based H2scan, which develops hydrogen leak detection systems, looks to have raised $5.5M in a funding round, according to a regulatory filing from the firm. The filing says that the round first opened in April of 2011, and included 34 investors. Details on the new funding have not yet been announced by the company. Nettle Makes Movies Social With MovieGoer
La Jolla-based Nettle, the mobile and social apps developer founded Brian Dear and Dan O'Neill, has launched its first app, MovieGoer, on the Apple iTunes App store. Ceradyne Sells Assets, Inks Licensing Deal In Japan
Costa Mesa-based Ceradyne, which manufactures and develops ceramic products for the defense, energy, auto, and other industries, said Monday that one of its subsidiaries, SemEquip, has inked a technology and patent licensing deal. Ceradyne said SemEquip has license its cluster ion implant hardware to Nissin Ion Equipment Co. Ltd, based in Kyoto, Japan. Stamps.com Links Into Etsy
Los Angeles-based Stamps.com, the provider of online postage and shipping software, said Monday that it has connected its USPS shipping service with Etsy, the online marketplace for handmade items. Stamps.com said that its integration allows Etsy sellers to print shipping labels for all USPS mail classes, automatically posting order status, delivery confirmations, and other information to Etsy's seller accounts. Nimble Plans Paid Accounts
Santa Monica-based Nimble, the developer of customer relationship management and contacts management software headed by Goldmine Software founder Jon Ferrara, looks to be shifting its sights to paid, business accounts. In a message to users Monday morning, Ferrara said that the service--which has been free during its beta testing phase--is planning to charge $15 per user per month for business users. Qualcomm Launches Medical Devices Subsidiary, $100M Fund
San Diego-based Qualcomm announced this morning that it has created a new, wholly owned subsidiary called Qualcomm Life, which will focus on wireless solutions for the medical devices market. The new subsidiary will also backed by a new, venture capital investment fund worth $100M, called the Qualcomm Life Fund, which will invest in medical device manufacturers. Music Reports In Expansion
Los Angeles-based Music Reports, the private equity-backed firm which provides music rights administrative services, said Friday that it has made a major expansion of its employees and offices. The firm said it expanded its Information Technology department by more than 20 percent, and has taken on an additional 10,000 square foot of office space in Woodland Hills to handle that expansion. RealD Lands Chinese Theater Chain
Los Angeles-based RealD, which provides 3D movie projection technology, said over the weekend that it has inked a deal with Chinese language film producer and distributor Mei Ah Entertainment Group Limited (MAEG), to install its 3D technology across one hundred screens in China. Nirvanix Powers Hawaiian Colocation Firm
San DIego-based Nirvanix, the provider of an online, cloud storage service, said today that it is powering the enterprise cloud storage service of Hawaiian colocation provider DRFortress. Nirvanix said that DRFortress will provides its cloud storage services both in Hawaii as well as the rest of the Pacific Rim. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
