Yardi Buys Software Firm
Santa Barbara-based Yardi, which develops software for property management, said Thursday afternoon that it has acquired ALMSA Corporation, a provider of software for the assisted living industry. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. ALMSA's software is used for electronic health record (EHR) and electronic medication administration in assisted living and long-term care communities. Yardi said it will maintain all of ALMSA's key personnel and its office in Eagle, Idaho.

AT&T Rolls Out LTE In Los Angeles, San Diego
Get a new, 4G smartphone over the holidays? If you're on AT&T, you will now be able to take advantage of faster, LTE wireless speeds in the region. AT&T said today that it has turned on LTE in Los Angeles and San Diego, meaning that new smartphones, including the HTC Vivid, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, LG Nitro HD, and others can now access higher broadband speeds in the area. San Diego Tech Coast Angels Honor John G. Watson With Memorial Fund
The San Diego chapter of the Tech Coast Angels, the largest angel investment group in Southern California, as well as the United States, said today that it has established a new, memorial fund, the John G. Watson Foundation, which will support entrepreneurism in the San Diego region. The fund has been started by a $1M gift from the family of John G. Stocktwits' Lindzon Leads Round In DailyWorth
Howard Lindzon, the prolific angel investor who runs San Diego-based Stocktwits, has led a round in personal finance email DailyWorth.com. According to DailyWorth, it raised $2M from angels, led by Lindzon and Joanne Wilson, and also including 500 Startups' Dave McClure, David Cohen of TechStars, and Eric Schmidt. Mindspeed Buys Picochip
Newport Beach-based Mindspeed Technologies said this morning that it has signed a definitive agreement to buy PIcochip Limited, a UK-based supplier of systems-on-a-chip (SoC) products. Mindspeed said it will pay approximately $51.8M, plus up to $25M in earn out, for PIcochip. Picochip's products are used for small cell base stations. Nimble Gets $1M From Google, Mark Cuban
Santa Monica-based Nimble, the developer of online, contact and relationship management software headed by Jon Ferrara, the former founder of Goldmine, said last night that it has raised $1M in a seed funding round. The round was led by Google Ventures and Mark Cuban. The funding also included Jason Calacanis, Don Dodge, Dharmesh Shah, and others. Arrowhead Research Inks Deal With Alnylam
Pasadena-based Arrowhead Research and RNAi therapeutics firm Alnylam Pharmaceuticals announced this morning that the two are in a collaboration and licensing agreement. Financial details of the agreement were not announced. THe two said that Arrowhead will receive a license from Alnylam to develop a RNAi therapeutic aimed at the Hepatitis B Virus (HBV). ViaSat Renews Rural Broadband Deal
Carlsbad-based ViaSat reports this morning that it has renewed a deal with the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC), to provide its satellite broadband services. The five year, wholesale distribution deal will be carried through its new ViaSat-1 satellite. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Irvine-based Local Corporation, the online local advertising and directory publisher, said this morning that it has promoted Chief Operating Officer Michael Sawtell, to President and COO.
