Chill Becoming Pinterest For Videos?
Los Angeles-based Chill, the social video discovery site founded by Brian Norgard and Dan Gould--demonstrating its characteristic ability to quickly jump on the latest Internet trends--has taken a clue from photo "pinning" startup Pinterest, and added its own pinning ability to its video site. The latest incarnation of Chill allows users to repost, comment, and interact with videos similarly to the way Pinterest lets users interact with photos. DexCom Buys Healthcare IT Firm
San Diego-based DexCom, a developer of continuous glucose monitoring systems for patients with diabetes, said Thursday afternoon that it has acquired SweetSpot Diabetes Care, a healthcare information technology firm. DexCom said it will pay up to $4.5M, plus earn out of an additional $4M for SweetSpot. SweetSpot develops a cloud-based service which helps process and handle data from patient devices, providing more useful information for healthcare providers, patients, and researchers. Ceres Rises In IPO
Thousand Oaks-based Ceres, the biotechnology firm developing specialized seed stocks for the biofuels industry, rose in its IPO on Wednesday, closing at $14.80 for the day, after rising 14 percent in its first day of trading. The firm priced its IPO on Tuesday evening at $13.00 per share, pricing lower than expected after a delay in its IPO. Fanattac Gets $1M, Tackles Social Media, Music
Hollywood-based Fanattac, a developer of an online, social media platform which looks to connect music fans and artists, has raised $1M in a funding round. The firm, which is headed by Dan Faiman, did not disclose the names of the investors in the company. the firm said it is providing a "unique" social media experience for music lovers, where fans will be able to interact with artists online. Apriso Adds To Win At Tesla Motors
Long Beach-based Apriso, which develops manufacturing operations management software, reports today that electric car firm Tesla Motors has selected another one of the firm's products to help it streamline its processes. The firm said that Tesla is using its FlexNet Manufacturing Process Intelligence (MPI) product, as a complement to the company's existing FlexNet Manufacturing Process Intelligence (MPI) software. Irvine-based Local Corporation, the provider of local business directory websites and related products, said today that its Rovion ad management system now includes the ability to add real-time polling on its rich media ads. CyberDefender Files For Chapter 11, Agrees To Sell To GR Match
Los Angeles-based CyberDefender, the troubled developer of Internet security software and provider of remote technical support services, said today that it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and has agreed to be sold to GR Match, LLC, an affiliate of Guthy-Renker LLC, its largest shareholder.
