Pasadena Angels Back Scientific Equipment Startup
The Pasadena Angels have backed developer of protein analysis equipment for the drug discovery and research market, investing $475,000 in a Series B for Wasatch Microfluidics, the group said this week. Wasatch Biofluidics is developing printing technology to deposit biomolecules on biosensor surfaces. The investment by the Pasadena Angels was led by Dr. Kevin Scanlon. Wasatch Microfluidics is based in Salt Lake City, Utah.

USC Researchers Develop Liquid Solar Cell Technology
Researchers at the University of Southern California report that they have developed new technology to create liquid, solar cells, which can be printed onto surfaces. The new technology--based on solar nanocrystals--were developed by chemistry researchers led by Richard L. Brutchey, assistant professor of chemistry at the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. AudioMicro Expands Sound Effect Library
Online stock audio marketplace AudioMicro is expanding its library of sound effects today, saying this morning that it has added 100,000 new sound effects to its service through a deal with Sound Idea, a company which develops sound effects for the broadcast, post-production, and multimedia industry. THQ Sells ValueSoft Division To Cosmi Software
Agoura-based videogame developer THQ has sold off its value PC software arm, ValueSoft, to Westminster, California-based Cosmi, the firms said this morning. Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed. ValueSoft, which is based in Chaska, Minnesota, distributes value priced PC games. THQ said the sale will allow the company to focus on its core video game portfolio. SpaceX Moves ISS Launch To May 7th
SpaceX, the developer of commercial rockets and spacecraft based in Hawthorne, has delayed its launch--again--of its mission to dock its Dragon spacecraft with the International Space Station (ISS), according to NASA. NASA said that SpaceX has delayed launch of its Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft from April 30th to May 7th. Quality Systems Buys Matrix Management Solutions
Irvine-based Quality Systems, a provider of practice management and electronic health records software, said today that it has acquired Matrix Management Solutions, a reseller of revenue cycle management and electronic health records products. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. Matrix Management Solutions was based in North Canton, Ohio, and provided healthcare IT solutions, revenue cycle management services, and other services to physicians and physician groups.

RainTree Oncology Gets $11.1M
San Diego-based RainTree Oncology Services, a provider of systems which help oncologists to purchase oral drugs, manage inventories, track prescriptions, and monitor patients, has raised $11.1M, the firm said late Tuesday. The firm said the Series B round was led by Robert M. Bass, and brings the company's total raised to $22.5M. Amgen Buys Turkish Pharmaceutical Company
Thousand Oaks-based Amgen said this morning that it has acquired Turkish pharmaceuticals firm Mustafa Nevzat Pharmaceuticals. Amgen said the deal is worth $700M in cash. Amgen said the acquisition will help to significantly expand its presence in Turkey. Mustafa Nevzat is a major supplier of pharmaceuticals to hospitals in Turkey, with revenues of approximately $200M in 2011.

Independa Raises $2.35M
San Diego-based Independa, which develops remote health management and monitoring systems for the elderly, said today that it has raised $2.35M in a convertible note funding. The firm said the round included Miramar Venture Partners and City Hill Ventures. $1.6M of the funding had been announced by the company last September. ViaSat Wins Deal In Saudi Arabia
Carlsbad-based ViaSat, the provider of satellite communications services, said today that it has scored a win with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. ViaSat said the King Abdul-aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has selected ViaSat's high capacity, Ka-band satellite system for a national satellite data network.
