Crowdfunder Dangles $25K In LA Startup Competition
Crowdfunder, an online site offering up a platform to help startups raise money for their firms via crowd funding, is dangling $25,000 in a contest open to Los Angeles companies. The firm, headed by Chance Barnett, said that its new crowdsourced startup contest, called CROWDSTART LA, will award $25,000 in funding for the company judged the most popular via votes on the site. SpaceX Success May Mean Military Flights
A report today says that the hugely successful flight and mission by SpaceX may open up the doors for that firm to gain a new customer: the U.S. military. The report, from Reuters, says that the third successful flight by SpaceX means that the firm has met one of the first requrements to fly military satellites into space. SpaceX already has a long line of satellite launches in its books, and the firm recently announced a plan to launch large satellites into space for Intelsat, with a new rocket (More info...)

Surf Air Gets Funding Round
Santa Monica-based Surf Air, the new startup out of the MuckerLab accelerator which is headed by Wade Eyerly, has announced its funding round, saying today that it has scored a key round of funding from Anthem Venture Partners, NEA, actor Jared Leto, Mike Walsh, TriplePoint Capital, Siemer Ventures, Baroda Ventures, Gilad and Eytan Elbaz, Rick Caruso, and Jeffrey Stibel. Los Angeles-based mobile application software developer Mobile Roadie reported this week that it is powering the official app for the Denmark national football team. Cracked.com Launches New Advertising Format
Cracked.com, the online humor site which is owned by Santa Monica-based Demand Media, said this morning that it has launched a new advertising product which it says connects advertisers with content "the moment it goes viral." Cracked.com said its new Virals ad product will trigger an advertising campaign on content, when it exceeds a specific threshold of activity.
