BlockBeacon Releases iPhone App For Local Deals
Santa Monica-based BlockBeacon, a new, venture backed startup developing mobile applications to help connect users with local restaurants and bars, has released a new iPhone app aimed at helping locals discover interesting, socially active places nearby. The startup--backed by Resolute.vc--also said it is expanding beyond Santa Monica to include all of California. FilmFunds Launches Mobile Search App For Film Info
Los Angeles-based FilmFunds, a new startup focused on connecting aspiring and professional filmmakers with financiers and actors, said this week that it is launching a new, mobile search app which recognizes and provides information on movie trailers, posters, billboards, and ads. Fisker Automotive Plans Big WSJ Ad Push
Irvine-based Fisker Automotive is hoping to spur more interest in its electric vehicles, via a big advertising push in the Wall Street Journal, the automaker announced Friday. Fisker said it will be running its ads over the "next several months" in its first, major advertising campaign in national US media. Fisker said it has now raised more than $1 billion in investments, and has generated revenues exceeding $100M from its customers. Friday Fun: Dog Vacay's Canine Cast
If nothing else, having a startup focused on dogs apparently means every day can be bring-your-dog-to-work day. DogVacay, the startup out of the Science Inc. studio/incubator which operates a person-to-person marketplace for dog boarding, posted an amusing rundown of the startup's various canine visitors this morning, in honor of Take Your Dog To Work Day. On Ramp Wireless Raising $30M
San Diego-based On Ramp Wireless, a developer of networking and communications equipment aimed at smart grid and other sensors networks, is in the process of raising up to $30M in funding, according to a regulatory filing from the firm Thursday. The filing says that the company has so far raised $10M in the round, which kicked off on June 11th. Names of the investors in the new round have not yet been announced. Active Network Launches Mobile Apps For Swim Meets
San Diego-based Active Network, which operates online websites targeted at community sports and other activities, has launched a new set of mobile apps aimed at swim meets. The firm said its new apps, released on both Apple iOS and Android, allows swim meets to track real time results and event standings, heat sheets, lane assignments, and more. THe new software, called Meet Mobile, is available for free. Active Network is looking to replace what had been a paper-intensive effort at swim meets.

Avanir Pharmaceuticals Gets $30M In Credit Facility
Aliso Viejo-based Avanir Pharmaceuticals, the biopharmaceuticals firm focused on treatments for central nervous system disorders, has received $30M in a debt funding round, according to lenders Oxford FInance and Silicon Valley Bank. Avanir will use the funding to expand its product line and working capital. Terms of the debt financing were not announced.
