Startup Combines E-Commerce, Augmented Reality
How do you make it easier for consumers to try out different outfits, when they can't because they're in front of their computer screen? A Los Angeles-based startup, Zugara, is looking to overcome that with a softwar eproduct which allows users to virtually try on outfits using augmented reality. The startup said today that it has launched a module for e-commerce platform PrestaShop. Los Angeles Firm Sues Google Over Mobile Browsing Patent
A little known Santa Monica-based firm EMG Technology is taking on Google in a patent fight, announcing today that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against the Internet giant, over a patent covering simplified navigation systems on smart phones and tablets. According to EMG, the lawsuit was filed in the District Court for the Eastern District of Texas in the Tyler Division, by Jeffer, Mangels, Butler & Mitchell LLP. Hulu's Kilar Eyed For Facebook Role, Says Report
Apparently, Silicon Valley cannot get enough of Hulu CEO Jason Kilar. According to a report> Tuesday afternoon from the New York Post, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, is "eyeing" Kilar for a top job at the social networking firm. The rumor comes only a few days after Hulu said that Kilar had "graciously declined" to be considered for a job as CEO of Yahoo.

Zumbox Receives $10M More In Series C Funding
Los Angeles-based Zumbox, the startup providing digital, postal mail services, which is now headed by John Payne, has raised $10.6M in a Series C funding round, the firm said late this morning. The firm said the funding came from existing investors, along with CEO John M. Payne and strategic partner Compushare. The firm says it has now raised $28M for development and distribution of its offerings. Athletes' Performance Gets $22.5M, In LA Hiring Push
Athletes' Performance, which maintains major technology operations in Los Angeles, said this morning that it has raised $22.5M for its performance training, nutrition, and physical therapy services for athletes, the military, and corporations. The funding came from ABS Capital Partners. John Stobo of ABS joins the company's board as part of the funding round. Broadcore Acquired By Masergy
Los Angeles-based Broadcore, which provides cloud communications services, such as hosted PBX, voice, SIP trunking, and other services, has been acquired by Masergy, the two firms said this morning. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced by the companies. Masergy is a Dallas, Texas provider of MPLS services.

BUZZMEDIA Buys Spin
Los Angeles-based digital media and entertainment publisher BUZZMEDIA announced this morning that it has acquired venerable SPIN Media, the publisher of Spin Magazine, the 25 year old brand known for its coverage of music and culture. Financial terms of the buy were not announced by the companies. BUZZMEDIA, which is headed by Tyler Goldman, said the deal includes not just SPIN's print magazine, but also SPIN.com, the SPIN Play app for the iPad, and SPIN's events business. On-Ramp Wireless Gets Backing From Energy Technology Ventures
San Diego-based On-Ramp Wireless, the developer of wireless communications systems used to connect devices into the smart grid, has scored the backing of Energy Technology Ventures, the venture capital m which is a joint venture of GE, NRG Energy, and ConocoPhilips. Solarflare Raises $10.0M
Irvine-based Solarflare, the developer of 10 Gigabit Ethernet adapters, has raised $10.0M in a funding round, according to a regulatory filing from the firm. Details on the fundraising have not been announced by the company. The regulatory filing indicates two investors participated in a debt funding with warrants, most likely a convertible debt round from existing investors. Solarflare's adapters are used for low latency applications such as big data, video editing, and financial applications.

AnyMeeting Targets Network Marketing Firms
