MaxLinear Adds QLogic's Desai To Board
Carlsbad-based MaxLinear said Monday afternoon that it has named HK Desai, the Chairman and former CEO of QLogic, to its board of directors. Desai currently is Chairman of data, server, and storage networking firm QLogic, and had been CEO from 1996 until 2010, and has been instrumental in guiding QLogic's growth. MaxLinear is a developer of radio frequency (RF) and mixed signal semiconductors.

MaintenanceNet Expands Down Under
Carlsbad-based MaintenanceNet, the developer of sales channel management and service agreement renewal software, reported that it's expanding Down Under today. The firm said it has signed a new, value added distributor in Australia, Westcon Group Australia, who will offer its product to its resellers for free. YouMail Says Hola To Spanish Language Users
YouMail, the developer of personalized voicemail applications and services, said today that it has added complete, Spanish-language support to its platform, including supporting automatic Spanish-language voicemail greetings and transcriptions. YouMail said its new Youmail en Espanol software provides automatic interaction in Spanish, if the Android OS is set to use Spanish, and can automatically greet callers in Spanish, if a user wants. ReachLocal Launches Retargeting For SMBs
Woodland Hills-based ReachLocal is looking to make search retargeting -- the targeting of consumers based on their prior Internet history -- available to the SMB market this morning, with the launch of a new product. The firm said its new ReachRetargeting, display advertising product will help SMBs target local consumers who have recently search for that SMB's business keywords, as well as those who have recently visited their site. Goodreads Tops 10 Million Members
Goodreads, the online social community focused on book readers, looks to be on a roll. The Los Angeles firm, which is run by Otis Chandler, reported this morning that it now has 10 million members, only three months after hitting the 9 million member mark. The company said it took four and a half years for the site to hit its initial, five million members. More Bad News For Fisker As Karma Catches Fire
There's more bad news for Irvine-based electric auto maker Fisker Automotive this morning, as one of its Karma sedans caught fire in Woodside, California Friday. A video of the fire posted on YouTube shows the left front side of the Karma--which was parked--in flames, in a so-far unexplained self-ignition. Fisker has been dogged with reliability issues as it attempts to get its business off the ground, in many cases due to its use of A123's battery systems. Elcelyx Therapeutics Adds $4M
San Diego-based Elcelyx Therapeutics, a developer of biopharmaceuticals aimed at both the weight loss and diabetes area, said this morning that it has raised $4M of a $7M extension of its Series B equity funding round. The new funding came from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Technology Partners. The company said that it has now raised a total of $20M in funding. Quest Debuts Windows Azure Monitoring Software
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software announced this morning that it has rolled out a new software package for monitoring Windows Azure applications. The firm said its new package, Foglight for Windows Azure Applications, is a software-as-a-service product for performance monitoring of applications running in the Azure cloud, Microsoft's cloud computing service. Kurion Names Chairman
Irvine-based Kurion, the venture-backed developer of nuclear and hazardous waste disposal technology, said this morning that it has named Ralph DiSibio as its Chairman of the board. DiSibio was most recently at Washington Energy & Environment, a firm involved in nuclear waste treatment and isolation.
