Modern Meadow Gets Funding For 3D, Printed Meat
Modern Meadow, a firm whose founders were previously co-founders of San Diego's Organovo, has scored funding to make manufactured, 3D printed meat a reality. The funding came from Breakout Labs and The Thiel Foundation, Breakout Labs said Thursday. Modern Meadow is looking to developing "high value, food grade animal protein"--including meat and hide--using 3D bioprinting technology. Amazon Studios Options Children's Series
Amazon Studios, the Los Angeles production arm of Amazon.com, said Thursday that it has optioned two new children's series. The firm--which has been ramping efforts in Hollywood to produce content specifically for Amazon's streaming video services--said it has optioned "Gortimer Gibbon's Life on Normal Street" created by David Anaxagoras, and "Javi and the Treehouse Club" by Federico Badia. Sleepy Giant Selects Joyent
Newport Beach-based Sleepy Giant, an online games developer, has selected cloud hosting firm Joyent for its infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) services, the two said this week. According to the companies, Sleepy Giant is using Joyent for its online games, to scale up and down its capacity as needed. Sleepy Giant says on its web site that it provides its services to such clients as Smart Bomb Interactive, Abandon Interactive, Herotainment, Atlus Online, THQ, and others.

Obagi Medical Products Names VP
Long Beach-based Obagi Medical Products, a developer of aesthetic medicine products, said Thursday that it has named Mark T. Taylor as its Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Investor Relations. Taylor joins the firm from Roth Capital Partners, where he had served in institutional sales, investment banking, and equity research. Taylor also had previously served at ICN Pharmaceuticals, Watson Pharmaceuticals, and MP Biomedicals.
