SnapCuts Launches Facebook App
Pasadena-based SnapCuts, the developer of a social video greeting service which is headed by Bee Ottinger, has debuted a new Facebook app, which lets users assemble video-based messages and share them with their friends. The firm said its new Facebook app lets users "snap together" various video clips to form messages to friends, and also lets users add personalized notes to their newly created mashups. BioIQ Partners With Health Insurance Brokerage
Santa Barbara-based BioIQ, the developer of software and technology for the health and wellness industry, said today that it has partnered with privately held insurance brokerage and consulting firm Keenan. BioIQ said that its health screening programs are being used by Keenan to help California hospitals and health clinics to conduct employee health screening programs and measure wellness efforts. Latest Mars Curiosity Tie In: Music From Mars With will.i.am
The latest Mars mission out of Psaadena's NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory has another interesting tie-in: a song dedicated to space exploration from musician will.i.am. NASA said today that will.i.am will be debuting a new song, to be broadcast from the surface of Mars via the Curiosity rover. The debut--to be held at 1 p.m. today--will be of a new composition "Reach for the Stars", specifically composed around the themes of science, technology, and space exploration. Sirigen Acquired By Becton, Dickinson
Sirigen, a developer of fluorescent biomarkers used in flow cytometry, and which was started at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has been acquired by Becton, Dickinson and Co.. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Sirigen was venture backed by Great Pacific Capital, Seraphim Capital, and Oxford Capital Partners. Report: Coda Automotive Sales Sluggish
Santa Monica-based Coda Automotive, the developer of electric cars, seems to be getting a sluggish start to sales, six months after it began selling its first model. According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the startup has sold only 78 vehicles, at most, based on figures released by the National Traffic Safety Administration (NTSA) along with a recall of the Coda's side air bags. Coda Automotive has not released any official sales figures yet for its electric automobiles.

Wittlebee Acquires Clothing Company
Culver City-based Wittlebee, the children's clothing subscription firm headed by Sean Pervical and backed by Science, Inc., has acquired a clothing company, Cottonseed Clothing Company, the firm announced today. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Cottonseed Clothing Company is a provider of t-shirt and apparel for kids. LoveIt Enhances Social Sharing Site
LoveIt, the venture backed photo curation and sharing site backed and run by a number of PriceGrabber veterans, said this morning that it has released a batch of new features for its service. The Pasadena company said that it has added such features as content importing and batch uploads. LoveIt is taking on Pinterest, allowing users to visually curate collections of their favorite photos of products and other items. CraveOnline Snags AOL Vet As Sales VP
Los Angeles-based CraveOnline, the men's lifestyle site owned by Evolve Media, said today that it has snagged Drew Berkowitz, the former General Manager of AOL's Video Unit Goviral as its new Senior Vice President of Sales. Berkowitz also ran IAC's Mindspark division, including Vimeo. Evolve Media said Berkowitz will lead the sales efforts of its East Coast, Midwestern and West Coast sales teams.

Sorenson Media Licenses Technology To Semiconductor Firm
San Diego-based Sorenson Media, the developer of video encoding and decoding software, said today that it has licensed its Sorenson Spark Video decoder to semiconductor firm Renesas Electronics Corporation. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Sorenson said that Renesas will use its video decoder in its next generation chipsets. Sorenson's decoding software is used to play videos from the Internet.

Yardi Upgrades Mobile Apps
Santa Barbara-based real estate and property management software developer Yardi said MOnday that it has updated its mobile software, Yardi Maintenance Mobile. The firm's app, which runs on Android, Apple iOS, and BlackBerry, allows maintenance workers to create, update, and close work orders in Yardi's Voyager software. Yardi develops software used for property management and real estate investment management.

Isis Pharmaceuticals Gets $1.4M From Alnylam
Carlsbad-based biopharmaceuticals firm Isis Pharmaceuticals, which is developing treatments for Crohn's disease and other rare diseases, said this morning that it will receive $1.4M from Alnylam Pharmaceuticals. The payment comes as part of a collaboration between the two companies in the area of agriculture. Isis said the deal also includes potential future royalty payments and future milestone payments. The two companies have been in a strategic relationships since 2004 around RNAi technology.
