Report: ShoeDazzle Cuts Staff
Los Angeles-based ShoeDazzle has cut a significant amount of its staff, according to sources, saying that the company had "major layoffs" Thursday morning. ShoeDazzle's public relations firm could not comment on the report, and the company had yet to reply to requests forwarded to them at press time. ZEFR Picks Up Staff From BetterWorks, Expands In London
ZEFR, the online content provider formerly known as MOVIECLIPS, and which recently expanded into sports content, has picked up a contingent of engineers from BetterWorks, and opened up an office in London, the firm said Thursday afternoon. Microsoft Buys Telesign Competitor
Microsoft has just acquired PhoneFactor, a competitor of Los Angeles-based, two-factor authentication provider TeleSign. Microsoft said it is buying PhoneFactor, which provides phone-based multi-factor authentication, and will be integrating that technology with key Microsoft technologies like Active Directory, Windows Azure Active Directory and Office 365. Bragstr Combines Fantasy Sports, Sport Wagering
Bragstr, a new startup based in Chatsworth, said today that it has launched a new service which combines fantasy sports and social gaming. Bragstr said its new service will let fans compete, socialize, and tout their knowledge of sports, allowing users to make fantasy bets on upcoming sporting events for virtual gold coins. Sony Online Entertainment Takes PlanetSide 2 To Russia
Sony Online Entertainment, the developer of massively multiplayer games which is based in San Diego, said today that it has inked a deal with Innova Systems to take its PlanetSide 2 title to Russia and the the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed. The two said that Innova has been granted exclusive publishing rights to PlanetSide 2 in its territory. Aragon Pharmaceuticals Adds $50M In Series D
San Diego-based Aragon Pharmaceuticals, which is developing small molecule drugs to treat cancer, has raised another $50M in a Series D funding, the firm said today. The funding was led by VenBio, and also included Topspin Fund, Aisling Capital, OrbiMed Advisors and The Column Group. The firm just raised a round in March, and said it has not raised $88M in total capital during 2012; in total, it looks like the firm has now raised over $122.0M in funding for its efforts. Amazon Options Horror Novel
Amazon Studios, the Los Angeles production arm of, has further expanding its content efforts, saying this week that it has optioned a gothic horror novel called Seed. The horror novel, authored by Ania Ahlborn, is the first to be optioned by the studio, which previously had only optioned movie scripts and episodic series projects. Regulus Therapeutics Adjusts IPO Offering Terms
San Diego-based Regulus Therapeutics has adjusted its anticipated IPO terms, saying in a filing this morning that it now anticipates its initial public offering price of its stock to be $4.00 per share, and that it will offer up 11.25M shares to the public in its IPO. The firm had initially been targeted at offering 4.5M shares of its stock at between $10.00 and $12.00 per share. Regulus is a developer of microDNA-based biopharmaceuticals.

Local Corporation Claims Record Traffic
Irvine-based local online advertising firm Local Corporation claims this morning that it has hit a record in total, mobile, and organic search traffic on it sites. The company said it reached 101 million total monthly unique visitors during the third quarter, up from 92 million monthly unique visitors in the same period a year ago. The company said that much of the growth came from mobile and organic traffic. The firm said the numbers came via third party tracking services, but did not disclose (More info...)
