ShopWiki Launches Barcode Scanning, Price Comparison App
ShopWiki, which operates an Internet shopping search engine, said this week that it has released a new, barcode scanning app for iOS. The site--which is owned by Los Angeles-based Oversee.net--said the barcode app lets users check online prices while shopping at brick and mortar retail stores. The app allows users to scan the UPC for a product, and then instantly see competitive pricing from online retailers. Atari Ties With Zynga On New Game
Atari, the interactive entertainment and licensing firm which now owns rights to classic Atari games, and social games developer Zynga said Thursday that the two have launched a new game called Super Bunny Breakout. Atari said the game is an expansion of its Breakout franchise, and will be available in both a demo version and a complete $0.99 iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch app. Atari's U.S. operations are run out of Los Angeles, where a number of its executives reside.

PawBox Rolls Out Subscription Gift Service For Pets
The latest e-commerce subscription service to launch out of Southern California? PawBox, an online gift box subscription service aimed at pets. PawBox, which is based in San Diego, said it will send out monthly gift boxes with pet food, treats, and supplies for $10 a month, to let users try out "high-end" pet products. Southern California appears to become the home of subscription, e-commerce products-by-mail companies, with users able to sign up for everything from razor blades by subscription (More info...)

Ceres Chief Scientific Officer Takes Advisory Role
Thousand Oaks-based energy crop developer Ceres, which develops agriculutural biotechnology for the renewable fuels market, said Tuesday that Richard Flavell, PhD., the firm's Chief Scientific Officer, has become Chief Scientific Advisor. Flavell remains on the company's board. The company said the new position makes Flavell a consultant to the company. Flavell has been at Ceres since 1998. Flavell said the move came as he turns 69.
