Hulu Heads To Windows 8
Los Angeles-based Hulu said Monday that it has launched a version of its Hulu Plus app on Windows 8, Microsoft's newest operating system. According to Hulu, the new Hulu Plus app is optimized to the new Windows user interface, and will debut on October 26th. The software is available now for early access Windows 8 users now. Among features of the UI are touch-screen optimization, tile-based viewing, and other features.

Karlin Ventures Takes Aim At Los Angeles Startup Investments
Los Angeles has a new, well funded, investment firm in town, with big plans for local investments: Karlin Ventures. According to TX Zhuo, who is heading up efforts for the investment firm, the venture capital firm is an arm of private investment firm Karlin Asset Management, the private family office of Gary Karlin Michelson, and is looking to help bolster sources of local capital for startups. Fisker Announces Aftermarket Relationships
Anaheim-based electric vehicle developer Fisker Automotive announced today that it has signed a number of deals with aftermarket partners, which will give its owners ways to personalize, "maximize", and protect their Karma sedans. Fisker said it has linked with 3M, Mobil 1, and Goodrich Technology, on three effort to provide products for the Karma. Demand Media Launches Channel With Arizona Republic
Santa Monica-based Demand Media announced today that it is powering a new Travel Channel for newspaper the Arizona Republic. According to Demand, it is launching the new brand on AZCentral.com, the online site for the Arizona Republic. Financial details of the win were not disclosed. Demand Media said the channel is the fourth time it has worked with Gannett, and is the third collaboration it has created with AZCentral.com. WD Certifies With Windows To Go
Irvine-based hard drive maker WD, said today that one of its portable hard drives, its My Passport Enterprise, has been certified with Microsoft's Windows To Go program. The program allows corporate customers to provide a full, bootable Windows 8 workspace on a bootable USB drive. The company said the new feature from Microsoft lets users easily carry, boot, and run their own, personal version of Windows 8 on any personal PC. Local Corporation Sells Rovion
Irvine-based Local Corporation, which provides online local advertising for small businesses, said Friday that it has sold off its Rovion unit to Gannett Co., Inc.. The deal was worth $3.9M in cash. Local Corp. said the deal would enhance it balance sheet and cash flow. Rovion becomes part of Gannett's PointRoll unit. Rovion was a provider of mobile advertising, and had been acquired by Local Corporation in April of 2011 for $2.3M.

Kurion Opens Facility In Washington
Irvine-based nuclear waste treatment developer Kurion said today that it has opened up a new facility in Richland, Washington. The firm said its new Modular Vitrification System (MVS) test facility will be used to mature and commercially demonstrate its technology, which is being used for nuclear waste cleanup. Kurion is developing nuclear waste treatment technology; vitrification is one of those technologies, which uses glass to encase and immobilize nuclear waste.

SMC Networks Names Latin American Head
Irvine-based SMC, the developer of cable gateway and other networking equipment, said today that it has named Gary J. Brust as General Manager of Latin America. Brust has previously served at companies such as Cisco, Scientific-Atlanta, Terayon and ADC Telecommunications. The company said Brust has previously help lead Latin American sales for those other companies, and will help lead the firm during a period of major growth in Latin America.
