CallFire: User Error To Blame For Errant Election Call
Oops. Los Angeles startup CallFire, has been looking to drum up interest in its system in the political sector all year, as the election has ramped up--and finally has, but for the wrong reason. That reason? The errant call in Florida's Pinellas County, which told absentee voters they had until "tomorrow" to turn in their absentee ballots--but really should have been a "today". Fisker Loses $3M In Cars In New Jersey Due To Sandy
The damage to Fisker Automotive is much worse than initally reported, with the auto maker losing more than 300 of its electric automobiles due to the storm surge from Hurricane Sandy, according to reports today. The WSJ said that Fisker lost the cars when the hybrid automobiles were parked at a New Jersey port last week. Predixion Software Rolls Out Developer Edition
San Juan Capistrano-based Predixion Software said today that it has launched a free, developer edition of its software, aimed at making it easier for developers to try out its software. The company said the free, fully functional version of its software connects into Microsoft's SharePoint, SQL Server 2012, PowerPivot 2012 and Excel 2013 software, allowing them to implement business intelligence and predictive analytics from the company. Access Scientific Acquired By Private Equity Firm
San Diego-based Access Scientific Inc. (ASI) said this morning that it has been acquired by private equity firm Endeavor Capital. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. ASI is a developer of devices used for over-wire insertion of sheaths and catheters, used in the healthcare industry. The firm's major product is the POWERWAND, a power-injectable midline IV catheter.

Targus Buys Sena Cases
Anaheim-based Targus recently announced that it has acquired fellow Orange County laptop case maker Sena Cases. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sena Cases becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Targus. SEna is a maker of leather, luxury laptop, smartphone, and tablet cases. Targus was advised by Sikich Investment Banking in the deal. The buy had been announced on October 30th. Sena Cases was based in Irvine.

EnGenius Ships New Wireless Access Point
Costa Mesa-based EnGenius Technologies has launched a new, dual-band wireless access point, the firm announced today. Engenius said its new product, the EAP600 High-Power Dual-Band N Indoor AP/WDS, provides dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHZ Wireless-N access, and is aimed at providing coverage to large and multi-story buildings. The new products has a MSRP of $179. EnGenius is a subsidiary of Taiwanese RF semiconductor firm Senao Networks.

DTS Powers New Panasonic Tablet
Calabasas-based DTS reported this morning that its SRS TruMedia HD audio processing technology has been adopted into a new, Android tablet from Panasonic. Financial impact of the win was not announced. The firm said its SRS TruMedia HD technology is being used as part of Panasonic's new ELUGA Live Android tablet. The DTS technology is there to provide surround-sound and provide a consistent listening volume across content.

Broadcom Ships New Quad 10GBASE-T PHY
Irvine-based semiconductor manufacturer Broadcom has shipped a new, Quad 10GBASE-T PHY, the company announced this morning. The firm said the transceiver is the second generation of its 10GBASE-T PHYs, and offers up 50 percent lower power in what it says is the industry's smallest footprint. The new chip is targeted for use in Ethernet switches. The company said the BCM84848 PHY is now sampling, with production volumes in the first quarter of 2013.
