Three Day Rule Plans Expansion To New York, San Francisco
Los Angeles-based Three Day Rule, the Los Angeles startup which is looking to reinvent dating through a subscription, invite-only service, told its users today that it is getting set to launch in New York City and San Francisco in coming months. Beats Electronics Names General Counsel
Santa Monica-based Beats Electronics, the headphone and audio electronics brand--plus new digital music streaming service operator--said today that it has named a new General Councsel. The firm said that Rafferty Jackson has been named to the position to provide strategic legal and business advice to the company. Gigit Looks To Become The Airbnb of Live Music
Can booking live bands and music for your party or event be as easy as it is to find a room to rent via Airbnb? A Los Angeles startup, Gigit--still in early beta--thinks so, and has begun offering up event planners and others a way to tap into a marketplace of bands and other musicians who will play live. Christie Street Expands Into Patent Filing
Los Angeles-based Christie Street, the online crowdfunding site aimed at hardware projects which is based in Los Angeles, has expanded into patent filing, the company said today. The firm said it will offer up a simple, cost-effective way to file patents, in a deal with legal firm White & Williams LLP. Factual Partners With TripAdvisor To Bolster Restaurant Data
Factual, the Los Angeles-based provider of a massive, cloud-based database of location and other data, said this morning that it has partnered with TripAdvisor, to complement TripAdvisor's dining options and review. According to the two companies, TripAdvisor will also provide Factual with user-generated data to help maintain freshness and accuracy for Factual's Global Places data. Divshot Raises $1.1M For Visual Web App Software
Need to build a web application, and wish you could do it in a more intuitive, visual way? Divshot, one of the startups out of Los Angeles startup accelerator Launchpad LA, said today that it has raised $1.1M in a seed financing round, for its drag-and-drop software for building web applications. Los Angeles-based j2 Global, the provider of Internet fax, cloud-based online backup, unified communications, email, and other services--as well as the owner of publisher Ziff Davis--said this morning that it has acquired MetroFax, a provider of Internet faxing services. STEC Shareholders Seek Takeover Of Company
Santa Ana-based solid state storage products firm STEC is facing a shareholder revolt this morning, after two of its largest shareholders, Balch Hill and Potomac Capital, said they will seek to replace the company's board and executives, and take "strategic steps" to improve shareholder value. MaxLinear Scores Design Win In Latin America
Carlsbad-based radio frequency chip designer MaxLinear reported a win in Latin America this morning. According to the company, its silicon tuner-demodulator device has been selected by an un-named OEM for use in a new, hybrid satellite plus terrestrial set-top box for the Latin America pay TV market. Vitesse Takes On Network Encryption
Camarillo-based networking semiconductor developer Vitesse Semiconductor announced a new product today, aimed at encryption of network layer traffic. According to the firm, its new Intellisec product is a "lightweight" security encryption technology aimed at encrypting data over the network. The firm said the new products are aimed at securing network applications such as e-commerce, cloud services, enterprise, and government communications.
