Parallax Capital Buys Software Firm Fox Technologies
Laguna Hills-based Parallax Capital, a private equity firm headed by James Hale, said this week that it has acquired Fox Technologies (FoxT), a developer of access management and governance software. Financial terms of the buy were not announced by the company. FoxT is a developer of access management tools for businesses, to help them manage access control to their applications, servers, databases, and desktops. Parallax also owns such companies as Daptiv, Computron, and Infor.

MySpace Launches New Mobile App, Site Design
Los Angeles-based Myspace officially launched its new site design and a mobile app today, firmly centering the online site on music, music discovery, and streaming. According to Myspace, its new site offers up a persistent music player, offering up 53 million songs from a library of digital music. The new site also lets users create their own radio stations, share animated GIFs, and more. Surf Air Takes Flight, Starts All-You-Can-Fly Shuttles To Silicon Valley
For venture capital investors and entrepreneurs, used to making the commute between Silicon Beach and Silicon Valley, the distance--and time--between the two technology centers has just dropped, thanks to the launch of Surf Air, an all-you-can-fly membership airline. Surf Air launched its first flight today at 10:45am, flying from Burbank to San Carlos. Colorescience Lands $10M For Cosmetics
Carlsbad-based Colorescience, the aesthetic medicines business spun out of SkinMedica when that company was acquired by Allergan, has raised $10M in a Series A funding round today. The company said the funding came from its existing investors, which include Split Rock Partners and Montreux Equity Partners. Both of those companies are adding executives to its board of directors. SpaceX Pursues Air Force
Hawthorne-based commercial rocket and spaceship developer SpaceX is expanding its range of possible customers today, with a deal with the military's Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC). According to the center, it has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with Space Exploration Technologies Corp., to evaluate the use of SpaceX's Falcon 9 for launching payloads into space. Los Angeles-based financial software developer BlackLine Systems has tied with accounting, tax, and advisory firm CohnReznick LLP, the companies aid today. DTS Powers Headsets For Turtle Beach
Calabasas-based audio processing and enhancement technology developer DTS announced a win with headset maker Turtle Beach today. According to DTS, its technology will be used in a select number of Turtle Beach's new media headsets. Financial impact of the win was not disclosed. Turtle Beach is using the DTS Headphone:X technology, which DTS says delivers realistic, multi-dimensional audio for headphones.

San Diego-based biotech investment firm Domain Associates announced this morning that it has promoted Nimesh Shah to Partner at the firm. Shah has been at the firm since 2006. Shah sits on the boards of Zyga Technology, Benvenue Medical, Cotera, Miramar Labs, Sequent Medical, and Twelve (Foundry Newco VII). He also is a board member for the San Diego Venture Group, and previously served at Cutlass Capital and Alex. Brown & Sons (now Deutsche Bank).
