Once upon a time, when the desktop PC was king, there were two kingdoms in the world of customer relationship management: ACT!, created by Pat Sullivan, and Goldmine, created by Jon Ferrara. If you were in sales, you either ran ACT!, or your ran Goldmine, and the two companies competed head to head in managing every salesperson's contact list. ForwardMetrics Gets $1M In Seed Funding
Encinitas-based ForwardMetrics has just taken $1M in a seed funding round, to help companies better conduct their strategic planning. The startup said that the new funding round brings its total raised to $1.75M. Burstly Snags Rovio Exec Responsible For Angry Birds Advertising
Santa Monica-based mobile app monetization and testing developer Burstly has snagged away an executive from high profile mobile games maker Rovio. According to Burstly, Jarkko Rajamaki has joined the company as its new Vice President of Business Development, a new role at the company. Rajamaki was previously head of advertising for Rovio Entertainment's Angry Birds franchise, serving as Vice President of Advertising Operations. EDF Renewable Energy Buys Another Wind Project
San Diego-based EDF Renewable Energy, the renewable energy projects developer, said today that it is in another deal to buy a wind project. The company said it will acquire the first phase of an up to 500 megawatt project in Texas, the Hereford Wind Project. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. Boingo Wins Pinnacle Bank Arena
Los Angeles-based Wi-Fi network provider Boingo announced a win at the Pinnacle Bank Arena, the arena for the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers men's and women's basketball teams. Calient Technologies Raises $12.22M For Optical Switching
Goleta-based photonic switch maker Calient Technologies has raised $12.22M in a funding round, according to numbers released in last week's MoneyTree report. No details on the funding round have been announced by Calient Technologies. Topline Games Raises $25M
In the big-fundings-we-recently-missed category, Los Angeles-based Topline Game Labs recently announced that it has raised $25M in a funding round for its fantasy sports and social gaming marketplace. The funding came from Cantor Ventures, the venture capital arm of New York investment firm Cantor Fitzgerald. Topline Game Labs is led by David Geller, the prior Global Head of Fantasy Sports at Yahoo! Sports. The funding was announced--but not broadly covered--in June.

Illumina Wins Testing Lab
San Diego-based life sciences equipment provider Illumina reports this morning that it has bene selected by HistoGenics, a provider of high resolution, sequence-based human leukocyte antigen (HLA) testing services. According to Illumina, HistoGenetics is using its MiSeq sequencing service for use in its CLIA laboratory. Financial details of the customer win was not announced.

Entropic Links With ARM
San Diego-based Entropic, the developer of semiconductors for the in-home entertainment market, has linked up with semiconductor company ARM for its latest designs, the two said today. According to ARM, Entropic has licensed its ARM Mali-400 and Mali-450 Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) technology, as well as a license agreement for the ARM Cortext-R5 processor. Kurion Names New Chairman
Irvine-based Kurion, the venture-backed developer of nuclear waste management technology, said today that it has named Stephen (Steve) Piccolo as its new Executive Chairman. According to the firm, Piccolo was most recently EVP for the URS Global Management & Operations Service Group, and spent three decades in the nuclear waste industry managing projects at Hanford, Wash., and Savannah River waste sites and Yucca Mountain.
