Wilcon Buys Freedom Dark Fiber Networks
Los Angeles-based fiber optic and data center infrastructure provider Wilcon announced today that it has acquired dark fiber provider Freedom Dark Fiber Networks. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Freedom Dark Fiber Networks is also based in Southern California, and is a provider of dark fiber in the region. Wilcon said the move wil lmake the combined company one of the largest fiber optic networks in SOuthern California, adding nearly 3,000 route miles and 1,000 enterprise (More info...)

AnsibleWorks Raises $6M For IT Automation Tools
Santa Barbara-based AnsibleWorks announced today that it has raised $6M in a Series A round, to go towards the company's open source, IT automation tools. The funding was led by Menlo Ventures. AnsibleWorks was founded by Michael DeHaan, and develops software used for automating IT operations. The company's CEO is Said Ziouani. Arkami Gets $1.8M For myIDkey
Aliso Viejo-based Arkami, the company behind the MyIDKey Kickstarter project which stores passwords and online IDs on a secure Bluetooth and USB drive, has raised $1.8M in a funding round, the firm said Tuesday. According to Arkami, the funding came from Gordon Clemons, McNeel Capital and Mark Swanson. Arkami was created by technology veterans Tareq Risheq and Mark Thacker, and had originally raised money via Kickstarter for its secure, USB drive. Media Temple Accelerates Website Hosting
Los Angeles-based web hosting and cloud services firm Media Temple says it has upgraded its web hosting services, to make websites run up to six times faster. The company, which is led by Demian Sellfors, said the accelerated performance comes from such upgrades as addition of Google PageSpeed, PHP FastCGI, and use of solid state disk drives on the company's shared database server. Media Temple said the company's GRID service was originally launched back in 2006.

Wiser Capital Gets $1.25M For Renewable Energy Efforts
Santa Barbara-based Wiser Capital has raised $1.25M in a funding round, to go towards its online platform for sourcing and funding commercial solar projects. The company said the funding came from private investors, and will go towards adding personnel and resources to the company. Wiser Capital said it has created an online marketplace for connecting energy investors, host facilities, and photovoltaic systems integrators, to help fund commercial photovoltaic (PV) projects. Amgen Gets Clearance On Product Collaboration
Thousand Oaks-based biotech giant Amgen said late Monday that it has received clearance on a product collaboration with Servier. According to Amgen, it received an early termination of the waiting period under the Hart–Scott–Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, in connection with a deal announced in July to license the rights to a heart failure drug from Servier. Wittlebee's Percival Surfaces At Topix
Sean Percival, the founder of Wittlebee and former MySpace, Tsavo Media, Docstoc, and Mahalo executive, has surfaced at hyperlocal news site Topix as VP of Marketing. Percival, who had been very visible in the Los Angeles technology scene, had left Los Angeles in July seeking new pastures. Percival's last startup, Wittlebee, had faced a fundraising crunch, which forced Percival out of the company. Percival had also been founder of the now defunct LA technology gossip blog, Lalawag.

D-Link Debuts New Network Surveillance Camera
Fountain Valley-based hardware manufacturer D-Link has announced a new network camera this morning, aimed at both home and small business monitoring. D-Link said its new Pan & Tilt Day/Night Camera provides such features as motion detection, night vision, and pan and tilt functionality. The firm said the new product has a 66 degree horizontal field of view lens, and is aimed at professional home or small business surveillance. The product retails for $99.99.
