Maker Studios Confirms Blip Buy
Los Angeles-based YouTube network Maker Studios confirmed its acuqisition of Blip, the company announced Friday, two weeks after word leaked out about the acquisition. Financial terms of the deal have not been announced. Blip was based in New York. Maker Studios is venture backed by Greycroft Partners, Downey Ventures, Time Warner, M+C, and others.

YouMail Tops 5 Million Registered Users
YouMail, the provider of the advanced voicemail applications and services, reported this week that it has passed five million, registered users of its service. The service--which allows users to screen their voicemails, provide custom voicemail greetings to specific callers, transcribe their voicemails to text, and much more--said it actually passed the milestone earlier this summer. Qualcomm Launches Low-Power Wi-Fi Chips For The Connected Home
San Diego-based Qualcomm is targeting the connected home and "internet of things" market today, with the launch of a new set of low-power, Wi-Fi chips. According to Qualcomm, its subsidiary, Qualcomm Atheros, has launched a new set of low-power, Wi-Fi chips specifically aimed at being included in major home appliances and consumer electronics. EdgeCast Expands In Taiwan
Santa Monica-based content delivery network provider EdgeCast Networks is expanding its services to Taiwan, with a deal with Chunghwa Telecom Co. Ltd.. According to EdgeCast, it has entered into a partnership with Chunghwa Telecom's Data Communications Business Group (HiNet), to help build a high performance CDN within Taiwan. SoCalGas Creates $1M Fund For Clean Technology Startups
In a move which adds some additional capital to the Los Angeles clean technology market, utility company Southern California Gas Company said Thursday that it has created a new, $1M innovation fund to help companies develop clean technology. ViaSat Files Another Patent Suit Against Space Systems/Loral
Carlsbad-based satellite communications operator ViaSat said yesterday that it has filed another lawsuit against Space Systems/Loral, over patent infringement. ViaSat claims that Space Systems/Loral has violated its patents related to technology it developed for its 100+ Gbps ViaSat-1 satellite. EDF Renewable Energy Buys Biogas Project
San Diego-based renewable energy developer EDF Renewable Energy said Thursday that it has acquired a biogas project located in Colorado. EDF Renewable Energy said it has agreed to acquire the Heartland Biogas Project, a 20 megawatt anaerobic digester and renewable natural gas facility located near LaSalle, Colorado.
