SourceAudio Finds $1.2M For Music Licensing And Search
Los Angeles-basd SourceAudio, which provides music licensing search and distribution tools and services, said Monday that it has raised $1.2M in a seed funding round. The funding was led by Emerson Investment Group. AeroVironment Gets $36.7M Army Contract
Monrovia-based unmanned aerial vehicle maker AeroVironment said Monday that it has received a $36.7M order, for its Switchblade tactical missile systems. AeroVironment said the order came from the United States Army Close Combat Weapons Systems Program Executive Office Missiles and Space (PEO MS), and that it is working with ATK on producing and delivering the systems.

Microsoft Expands In Silicon Beach
The latest company to expand into Silicon Beach? Technology giant Microsoft, which opened up a new technology center in Playa Vista last week, which it says will house around 130 Microsoft employees. Microsoft's efforts in Los Angeles are headed by Mark Kornegay, General Manager of Microsoft, Southern California. The employees at the new Microsoft office are supporting a number of customers in the LA area.

Quality Systems Buys Mirth
Irvine-based Quality Systems, which develops electronic health records and other related software, has acquired fellow Orange County healthcare information technology company Mirth Corporation. According to Quality Systems, it will use the acquisition to enhance its current offerings. Equipois Acquired By Granite State Manufacturing
Los Angeles-based Equipois, the developer of ergonomic, mechanical arm technology used in the manufacturing and industrial industry, has been acquired by Granite State Manufacturing, a contract manufacturer of specialized equipment for the defense, medical, semiconductor, and industrial market segments. Western Digital Buys Virident For $685M
Irvine-based Western Digital is making a big acquisition this morning, saying that it is paying approximately $685M in cash to acquire flash storage maker Virident. Western Digital said that server side flash storage maker Virident will be acquired by its subsidiary, HGST. CrowdStrike Gets $30M For Cybersecurity Technology
Irvine-base security technology provider CrowdStrike announced this morning that it has raised $30M in a Series B funding round, which was led by Accel Partners and also included Warburg PIncus. The security company--founded by serial entrepreneur George Kurtz--said it will use the funding to fund intelligence and go-to-market for its product. ViaSat Launches High Speed Satellite Internet In Florida
Carlsbad-based satellite operator ViaSat reports this morning that it has launched its new, high speed satellite Internet services in Florida. ViaSat said its new Exede Evolution satellite Internet plan is available across all of Florida's 67 counties, offering up 12 Mbps service to users. ViaSat is offering up its new, high speed access for $64.99 a month. ViaSat's new satellite supports downloads of up to 12 Mbps and upload speeds of 3 Mbps, which it says is faster than typical DSL. Novatel Wireless Cutting Over 75 Jobs In Big Restructuring
San Diego-based wireless modem manufacturer Novatel Wireless announced a big layoff today, as part of a restructuring effort at the company. Novatel said it woul cut approximately 75 to 80 employees as part of the restructuring, which it said would "maximize efficiencies and optimize business operations" at the company. Everbridge Wins Roche Pharmaceuticals
Glendale-based mass notification and emergency communications provider Everbridge said today that it has signed on a big, new customer for its system, Roche Pharmaceuticals. According to Everbridge, Roche Pharmaceuticals is using Everbridge for operational and emergency communications. Financial terms of the win were not announced. Everbridge said its systems are replacing an existing, manual call tree system which had been in use by Roche.
