The Sugar Lab Acquired By 3D Systems
Los Angeles-based startup The Sugar Lab, which was developing technology to print edible, 3D designs with sugar, has been acquired by 3D Systems. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The Sugar Lab has been using 3D Systems' products to print edible, food-safe 3D designs. According to 3D Systems, it will integrate The Sugar Lab's 3D printing tecnhique into its platforms. The Sugar Lab was founded by Kyle and Liz von Hasseln, and was based in Silver Lake.

Nomadix Settles Patent Suit Against Aruba Networks
Agoura Hills-based wired and wireless gateway developer Nomadix said today that it has settled a patent infringement case it had filed against Aruba Networks. Financial details of the settlement were not disclosed. Nomadix said the settlement included a license to Aruba of its patent portfolio covering Internet access technology. Report: Dominate Fund Retreats From Hollywood
An effort to raise an investment fund from Hollywood, to specifically invest in technology companies, looks to have pulled back its effort to court celebrities and actors, according to a report this week. DominateFund, a new venture capital fund created by Mashable blogger Ben Parr, apparently has de-emphasized its outreach to celebrities and Hollywood, apparently because of lack of interest from celebrities in actually investing in the fund, according to Fortune. Spreeify Adds New Social Media Giveaway and Promotions Product
Los Angeles-based Spreeify, the developer of social marketing software headed by Ruben Dua, is launching a new social marketing product it calls Social Swag this week. According to the company, the new product helps brands engage socially with people, by helping them run promotional giveaway campaigns on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr and Instagram. ScoreBig.com Gets $10M Investment
Los Angeles-based online ticket marketplace ScoreBig.com said today that it has raised $10M in a new funding round, and hired a new Chief Strategy Officer. ScoreBig.com said the new funding round came from Checketts Partners Investment Fund (CPIF), and is the first close of a Series C round of funding. CPIF adds a board member as part of the investment. Semtech Gets Ultra High Definition TV Test, Measurement Win
Camarillo-based analog and mixed signal semiconductor provider Semtech said today that it is powering a new test and measurement product from OmniTek, a manufacturer of broadcast test and measurement equipment. Semtech said it is providing 6G UHD-SDI equalizers to OmniTek, as part of that company's introduction of a new test and measurement product. Volumes and financial impact of the win was not announced. Clearlake Capital Acquires Futuris Automotive
Santa Monica-based private equity investor Clearlake Capital Group has acquired Futuris Automotive, an automotive supplier which designs, engineers and manufactures seating and interior systems. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. Clearlake manages around $1.4 billion in equity, and invests across a wide range of industries. Futuris is a supplier to such OEMs as Tesla Motors, GM, Ford, Toyota, and many others. The company is based in Melbourne, Australia.

Kofax: Now Processing More Than 1.1M Mortgages A Year
Irvine-based document capture and automation systems developer Kofax announced this morning that it hs products are now being used to process more than 1.1 million mortgages--or approximately 375 million pages--in the U.S. The company--which makes software to digitize, scan, and manage all kinds of paperwork--says it now has more than 20,000 customers in banking, insurance, government, healthcare, business process outsourcing and other markets.
