LA Virtual Goods Firm Virtual Greats Acquired By Iconicfuture
Los Angeles-based Virtual Greats, a provider of licensed, virtual goods for online and mobile games, has been acquired by fellow virtual goods company Iconicfuture, the two announced this week. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Virtual Greats distributed a range of virtual goods linked with brands, celebrities, TV shows, films, and other sources. Apmetrix Lands Investment Round For Videogame, Mobile Analytics
San Diego-based Apmetrix, which provides software for video game and mobile game analytics, said Friday that it has raised a round of funding. Size of the funding was not disclosed. The round came from Analytics Ventures, La Costa Investment Group, and KI Investment Holdings. United Online Sees Delay In FTD Spinoff
Woodland Hills-based United Online said this morning that it is expecting a delay as it hopes to spin off flower delivery service FTD. According to United Online, it had hoped to target the split by October 1st, but because it has not yet received all of the necessary regulatory approvals, now believes the split will happen on November 1st. California Public Utilities Commissions Approves Rules For Lyft, SideCar, Uber
In a win for ridesharing services Lyft, SideCar, and Uber, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) announced Thursday that it has approved final rules to govern the new transportation services, requiring such things as criminal background checks for drivers, zero tolerance for drugs and alcohol, and commercial liability insurance requirements. Boingo Buys Advanced Wireless Group
Los Angeles-based Wi-Fi network operator Boingo WIreless said Thursday that it has acquired Advanced Wireless Group, a provider of Wi-Fi access to airports in the United States. Financial terms of the buy were not announced. According to Boingo Wireless, Advanced Wireless Group (AWG) is the second largest airport Wi-Fi provider in the US, operating seventeen public Wi-Fi networks at U.S> airports. Fuisz In Partnership With AwesomenessTV
Venice-based Fuisz, a developer of software to automatically identify objects and people in any video, has just partnered with AwesomenessTV, the company said Thursday. According to the company, its technology is being used by AwesomenessTV to enable direct links to purchase items in its videos being produced by AwesomenessTV. DTS Licenses Play-Fi To Core Brands
Calabasas-based audio technology provider DTS has licensed out its Play-Fi, wireless whole home audio streaming technology to consumer electronics company Core Brands, the two said Thursday. BeyondTrust Names Marketing VP
San Diego-based security software provider BeyondTrust has named a new Vice President of Marketing, the company has announced. The company said it named Michael Yaffee, who was most recently Senior Director of Product Marketing at BeyondTrust, to the position. Yaffe had previously been at Core Security, NTRU Cryptosystems, SHYM Technology and CyberTrust.
