Holiday E-Commerce Spending Hits Record $46.5 Billion
Holiday spending via desktop e-commerce hit yet another record this holiday season, reaching $46.5 billion, according to the latest numbers released Tuesday by comScore. According to comScore, U.S. retail e-commerce spending hit $46.5 billion, up ten percent versus a year ago, a record for online holiday spending. comScore did not release how those numbers relate to mobile or tablet order activity this year. Fandango Powers New Samsung Smart TV Service
Los Angeles-based Fandango, the provider of movie information and ticketing services, has inked a deal today with Samsung to launch a new, movie trailer and ticketing service on Samsung's smart TV line. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Emulex Sets New CFO
Costa Mesa-based data storage networking equipment developer Emulex has appointed a new CFO this morning, saying that it has named Kyle B. Wescoat as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Wescoat was most recently the CFO of Skullcandy, and also has served at such firms as VIZIO and VANS. Emulex said the appointment is part of a "corporate transformation" of the company. The new CFO comes after major shakeup at the company and of its executives in November. Halozyme Gets $20M In Term Loan
San Diego-based biopharmaceuticals firm Halozyme Therapeutics announced Monday that it has received $20M in a term loan, from Oxford Finance and Silicon Valley Bank. Terms of the new loan were not announced. According to Halozyme, the proceeds of that loan will be used for working capital and other near-term growth initiatives. Cibus Buys Nucelis
San Diego-based Cibus, a developer of gene-based, crop breeding techniques, said today that it has acquired Nucelis, a biotechnology firm focused on technology for developing bio-chemicals based on harnessing plants, yeast, and bacteria. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Nucelis had already been partially owned by Cibus, and licensed Cibus technology for its efforts. Cibus now says it employs 100 people worldwide. Nucelis will become an independent operating unit of Cibus.

Jacobs Buys FMHC Corporation
Pasadena-based engineering company Jacobs Engineering Group has acquired a provider of wireless communications site development, design, networking, construction, and other related services, the company said this morning. According to Jacobs Engineering, it acquired the assets of FMHC Corporation, based in Chicago, to help bolster its services. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. Jacobs is a major provider of construction-related services.

TouchCommerce Wins German Customer
Agoura Hills-based TouchCommerce, the provider of online chat services and products aimed at e-commerce retailers, reported today that it has partnered with German travel operator FTI, to provide a chat feature to FTI's 5vorFlug brand page. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. The company said that it will provide its TouchChat solution on the 5vorFlug site, which sells package tours and last minute travel to consumers in Germany.

AltaSens Debuts New CMOS Chip
Westlake Village-based AltaSens, which develops CMOS image sensors, said today that it has launched a new, CMOS image sensor specifically aimed at the automotive market. According to the company--which is now a subsidiary of JVC KENWOOD--its new, high definition CMOS image sensor delivers wide dynamic range HD video at 1080p30 through 1080p60. The company develops CMOS sensors for use in videoconferencing, telepresence, surveillance, broadcast, cinematography, medical, and industrial markets.
