Masimo Backs Medical Device Incubator
Irvine-based patient monitoring products developer Masimo is backing an effort at medical device incubator Edison National Medical, to drive developer interest in its platform, Masimo Root, the company announced today. Oversee.net To Merge Crash City Guides Into WanderWe
Los Angeles-based Oversee.net said it plans to integrate Crash City Guides, the online travel discovery app for the iPhone, into its WanderWe travel site this morning. Financial terms of the deal, which had been disclosed last week, were not announced. WanderWe is the new online travel and getaway site that Oversee.net launched in September. Oversee.net's online travel group is headed by Raj Beri. Crash City Guides had been backed by Idealab, and was founded by Erick Laubach.

Ivantis Raises $46.5M For Glaucoma Treatments
Irvine-based Ivantis, a developer of stents used to lower eye pressure for glaucoma patients, said this morning that it has now raised $46.5M in its Series B funding round, with the addition of an additional $14.0M close in the funding. According to the company, the final close of its round came from Vertex Ventures and GBS Ventures. Demand Media Files Paperwork For Domain Name Service Spinout
Santa Monica-based Demand Media announced this morning that it has filed paperwork required for the planned separation and spinout of its domain name business. According to Demand Media, its new subsidiary, Rightside Group, Ltd., has filed Form 10 registration for its spinout, which it says is a major milestone as part of its separation efforts. Rightside Group will be based in Kirkland, Washington, which is where Demand Media's domain name businesses have been based.

SpaceX Gets Japanese Satellite Launch Contract
Hawthorne-based SpaceX said late last week that it has been awarded a contract from Japanese satellite operator SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation. According to SpaceX, it will launch SKY's JCSAT-14 communications satellite to a geostationary transfer orbit on its Falcon 9, in the second half of 2015. SpaceX did not say how much the contract is worth. Beats Music Sets Launch Date, Ties With AT&T, Target
Beats Music, the online music streaming subscription service which has been in development by Santa Monica-based Beats Electronics, is set for launch on January 21st, the company said over the weekend. According to Beats Electronics, the service will initially launch with a free trial, and will cost $9.99 a month for streaming via iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and the web. PowerGenix In Manufacturing Partnership
San Diego-based PowerGenix, the developer of Nickel-Zinc (NiZn) battery technology, has linked up with a new manufacturing partner, the company said this morning. PowerGenix said it has signed a MOU with Asian battery manufacturer Amperex Technology Co. Ltd, to provide high volume manufacturing of its NiZN batteries. Clearlake Names New CEO At NetMotion Wireless
Santa Monica-based private equity investor Clearlake Capital Group said this morning that it has named a new CEO at portfolio firm NetMotion Wireless. According to the companies, Erik Prusch has been appointed CEO at NetMotion, which Clearlake acquired in September of 2012. Prusch is an advisor to Clearlake, and was most recently President and CEO of Clearwire Corporation; he also served at Borland Software, Intuit's Turbotax division, Identix, and Gateway Computers.
