Report: Uber Artificially Pushes Pricing In San Diego
Is Uber manipulating the market for its UberX car service? According to a report Wednesday from TheVerge, Uber has been keeping drivers off the road in San Diego--to force "surge" pricing on the ride service. Uber's "surge" pricing is an algorithm-driven feature of Uber, which dramatically increases the cost of rides on its system when drivers are at a premium. Surf Air Extends To Las Vegas
Los Angeles-based startup airline Surf Air, which has made a splash with frequent travelers between Southern California and Silicon Valley, is extending its footprint, saying Wednesday that it intends to launch service between Southern California and Las Vegas, starting next month. Bruin Biometrics Finds $10M For Medical Sensors
Los Angeles-based medical device startup Bruin Biometrics said this morning that it has raised $10.0M in a new fundign round, to go towards its biometric sensing products. The startup develops a sensor which can be used to detect inflammatory changes associated with wounds, and another which monitors the health of joints and prosthetic implants. ZEFR Lands $30M More
Venice-based ZEFR, which helps brands to better identify their fans on YouTube, said today that it has raised $30M in a new funding round. The funding was led by Institutional Venture Partners, and also included U.S. Venture Partners, Shasta Ventures, First Round Capital and Richmond Park Partners. TrueCar Buys
Santa Monica-based TrueCar, the online car buying service led by Scott Painter, has acquired the domain name, which it says will be using for brand expansion and as an umbrella domain name. TrueCar did not say exactly how it intends to expand its service. TrueCar offers up a combined service which both provides end consumers with actual pricing data on automobiles, but also helps to connect those consumers with car dealers. GSN Games Buys Bingo Bash Creator, Bash Gaming
Santa Monica-based GSN Games, the online games division of Game Show Network, has acquired Bash Gaming, which makes the social bingo game Bingo Bash. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. OpenX Launches Mobile Native Ad Exchange
Pasadena-based OpenX has just launched a new, mobile ad exchange, which it says is the first, mobile-first native ad exchange. OpenX said its new Native O|X exchange allows app developers and publishers to apply programmatic buying to popular, native, in-stream ad formats, with such features as approving sources, and filtering and reviewing ads. OpenX said that it has more than 300 pre-screened partners who currently have access to inventory on its native ad exchange.

Lytx: We Can Predict Driver Collisions Before They Happen
What happens when you put a camera and other sensors on a vehicle to help improve driver safety? Apparently, it makes it possible to predict with some accuracy the probability that a driver will wind up in a collision--well before it happens.
