Pricetag For TrueCar.com's New Domain, True.Com: $350,000
Santa Monica-based TrueCar, the online car pricing site--which has made its name from revealing the full pricing details behind local car purchases--said this week that it had acquired a brand, new domain--True.com. However, the company didn't announce the price it paid for its shiny new domain name. That said, the price--like the price of cars that TrueCar provides through its service--isn't a secret: apparently, TrueCar paid $350,000 in cash for its domain name. Sony Electronics Cuts 400 In San Diego
Sony Electronics said Wednesday that it is cutting approximately 1,000 employees in the United States, part of a global cut of 5,000 employees, a move which will affect 400 of the company's employees in San Diego. Sony also said it will close 20 of its retail, U.S. Sony Stores in the move. Sony said the cuts were made to position the company in the "best possible place for future growth". Novatel Wireless Inks Two Telematics Deals
San Diego-based wireless data equipment provider Novatel Wireless has inked two, separate telematics deals, which involve using the company's products in vehicle tracking applications. According to Novatel, it has been selected by Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS) to support a fleet management system; VTS develops fleet management systems. WiSpry Launches New Product
Irvine-based RF semiconductor developer WiSpry said Wednesday that it has launched a new product, a RF quad capacitor array, aimed at the consumer, wireless market. WiSpry's new MEMs-based, tunable, RF quad capacitor array allows designers to develop RF filters in consumer wireless systems. Tunable filters are used in wireless design to select the frequency ranges that can be sent and received by a circuit. Pricing on the new component was not announced by WiSpry.
