UCI School of Medicine Adopts Google Glass
In what the school says is the first move by a medical school to adopt Google Glass into its curriculum, the UC Irvine School of Medicine said Wednesday that it will integrate use of Google Glass into its four year curriculum, using the high tech specs as part of everything from first and second year anatomy classes to third and fourth year hospital rotations. CAA Ventures Into DarbySmart
Los Angeles-based CAA Ventures, the venture capital arm of the Creative Artists Agency, has made an investment in a monthly delivery service focused on do-it-yourself (DIY) crafts. San Francisco-based Darby Smart said this morning that it has raised $6.3M in a funding round, which came from Maveron, Forerunner Ventures, and CAA Ventures. First Bitcoin Plumber? LA Plumber Starts Accepting Bitcoin
A Los Angeles plumbing and water heater repair and installation company, Ritz Plumbing & Heating, said this morning that it has started accepting Bitcoin for purchases of its service, effective immediately. Rubicon Reports Record First Quarter
Los Angeles-based Rubicon Project said late Tuesday that it had record, first quarter results, with its first quarter revenues reaching $23M, up 39 percent year over year, and managed revenues of approximately $130M, up 34 percent year over year. Clearlake Capital Buys ConvergeOne
Santa Monica-based private equity investor Clearlake Capital Group said this morning that it is in an agreement to acquire ConvergeOne, a Minnesota-based provider of communications and managed services to the enterprise market. Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. Clearlake Capital said it has added Behdad Eghbali, Prashant Mehrotra, and James Pade toConvergeOne's board of directors. ConvergeOne is based in Eagan, MN, and has around 4,100 customers.

Transphorm Gets Strategic Funding, Japanese License Deal
Goleta-based Transphorm, which is developing Gallium Nitride-based power conversion devices, said Tuesday that it has inked a licensing deal with Japanese company Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., along with a related investment. Transphorm said the deal includes 40 issued U.S. patents and another 110 Japanese patents, covering Furukawa's Gallium Nitride (GaN) power device portfolio. Unitas Global Joins Cloud Security Group
Los Angeles-based Unitas Global, the enterprise private cloud provider led by Grant Kirkwood, said this morning that it has joined an industry group called the Cloud Security Alliance. DealerSocket Gets Investment From Vista Equity Partners
San Clemente-based DealerSocket, a developer of software-as-a-service for the automotive industry, said Tuesday that it has entered into a strategic investment partnership with private equity firm Vista Equity Partners.
