Qualcomm Makes Strategic Investment In RetailNext
San Diego-based Qualcomm has put its weight behind a developer of software used for Big Data analysis of physical retailers, in a strategic funding. RetailNext, which develops software used by retailers to apply Big Data to the information being generated at physical stores, said Qualcomm led a strategic investment in the company, via both Qualcomm Incorporate and Qualcomm Ventures. MGID Moves Headquarters To Los Angeles
MGID, a provider of native advertising services and technology, said Tuesday that it is moving its U.S. headquarters to Los Angeles, to be closer to its sports, entertainment and lifestyle clients. The native advertising company--which helps place native ads on publisher web sites--was previously headquartered in New York. The company says it has more than 3,000 publishers using its services, and generates around 90 million unique monthly visitors through its service.

Donuts Rolls Out 29 New Domains In July
Donuts, the domain name registry company which has an office and operations here in Southern California, said today that it is releasing 29 new generic, top-level domains (gTLDs) this month, the latest in a very large number of gTLDs run by the company. Donuts said the 29 new gTLDs will bring its total to 139 under management. LegalZoom Names Marketing Chief
Glendale-based LegalZoom has appointed a new head of marketing, the company said this morning. LegalZoom said it has appointed Laura Goldberg as Chief Marketing Officer, to lead overall strategy and direction of the company, and lead the company's marketing and product teams. Goldberg was most recently COO of GOOD Worldwide, and also has served at ScoreBig, NFL Online, and Napster/pressplay. LegalZoom is backed by private equity investor Permira Funds.

Ceres Licenses Software To Bayer CropScience
Thousand Oaks-based agricultural biotechnology developer Ceres said today that it has licensed its Persephone genome visualization application to Bayer CropScience. Financial impact of the deal were not announced. Ceres said the deal includes a multi-year, software license and collaboration agreement and professional services and support. Qualcomm Deploys VoLTE In Japan
San Diego-based Qualcomm reported this morning that it has launched its first, large scale commercial VoLTE deployment, in Japan. Qualcomm said it launched a VoLTE solution for NTT DOCOMO based on its Snapdragon 800 processor. Qualcomm says the VoLTE launch supports higher quality voice calls, faster voice connections, and simultaneous voice and data rates of up to 150 Mbps.

Saban Brands Sets VP Digital
Los Angeles-based Saban Brands, which manages such brands as Power Rangers, Paul Frank, Macbeth, Julius Jr., Popples and Emojiville, said today that it has named Kendall Doty as its new Vice President of Digital. Doty will lead Saban Brands' digital products and services, including online, mobile, games, apps, e-commerce, and social media efforts. Western Digital Bolsters Board
Irvine-based storage device maker Western Digital said Monday that it has named Paula A. Price to its board of directors. Price is senior lecturer at Harvard Business School in the Accounting and Management, and was most recently EVP and CFO of Ahold USA. Price also sites on the boards of Accenture, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Financial Guaranty Insurance Company. Price has also served at CVS Caremark and JPMorgan Chase, among other positions.
