SendGrid Expands in Orange County
Email delivery service provider SendGrid has opened up a new office in Orange County, saying today that it opened the new location to attract local talent to the company. SendGrid says it is "rapidly expanding" and that it opened the new office in downtown Orange to help attract new employees to the company. SendGrid did not say how many people it is looking to hire at the location, however, it say sit is actively hiring across the company. Whim Takes On Instant, Mobile Dating
A new, Los Angeles startup, Whim, has recently launched, looking to cut the time between mobile contact and a real date--saying that its app make it possible for users to find a person, and get a date the same day. The startup--one of dozens looking to hook into the popularity of such mobile dating apps as Tinder--says it wants to reduce the time waiting and planning dates, filtering and messaging other users, and to increase the frequency and ease of getting a date. Otonomy Files For IPO
San Diego-based Otonomy, the biopharmaceuticals firm which is developing treatment of diseases and disorders of the ear, has filed for an IPO, saying in a filing that it is looking to raised $86.25M in an offering on the NASDAQ Global Market. Otonomy said it intends to list under the symbol OTIC. Otonomy's IPO is being underwritten by J.P. Morgan, BofA Merrill Lynch, Piper Jaffray, and Sanford C. Bernstein. Hulu Snags Exclusive Deal For South Park
Los Angeles-based Hulu said over the weekend that it has inked a deal to become the exclusive home for "South Park", the irreverent animated TV show. Hulu said that it will provide every episode of the series on the service, and will also be the exclusive streaming destination for South Park's season 18 later this fall. Hulu showed off its lineup of new content this weekend at the The Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour.

The Omega Group Acquired By Trimble
San Diego-based The Omega Group, a developer of software used for mapping and analytics in the public safety areas, has been acquired by Trimble. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. The Omega Group's software--which runs either in the cloud or on-premise--provides mapping for public safety agencies, such as mapping fires, crime, or other information. Central Desktop Certifies With NetSuite
Pasadena-based project management and collaboration software developer Central Desktop said today that its SocialBridge SuiteApp software has been given "Built for NetSuite" verification. The certification means that the software meets NetSuite's development standards and other requirements for working with NetSuite's systesm. Beats Rolls Out Gold Headphones For Winning German Team
In a unique, World Cup related effort, Santa Monica-based Beats Electronics said Friday that it has created a set of 24, 24 carat gold dipped Beat Pro headphones for the winning German team. The headphones will be given to the German team. Beats Electronics also released a video of its gold headphones along with Naomi Campbell, working with fashion photographer Rankin as part of the campaign.

AECOM Buys URS Corporation
Los Angeles-based AECOM Technology Corporation said Friday that it is acquiring URS Corporation, in a cash and stock deal worth approximately $4 billion. AECOM said that, including the assumption of debt, the total enterprise value of the deal will be approximately $6 billion. Both companies serve the engineering and construction industry. The companies said the combined firm will have more than 95,000 employees and 2013 pro forma revenues of more than $19B.
