FAA Gives Nod To Hollywood For Drone Use
Hollywood is helping to pave the way for commercial use of unmanned aerial vehicles, thanks to a FAA ruling Thursday letting the film and television industry use drones in their filming efforts. According to the FAA, it will allow six aerial photo and video production companies to use unmanned aircraft systems in the National Airspace System. Wallaby, CreditCards.com Launch Mobile App
Pasadena-based Wallaby Financial, the developer of web and mobile apps to help consumers manage their credit card spending, has launched a new mobile app with CreditCards.com. CreditCards.com, which operates an online credit card marketplace, is tapping Wallaby's software to power the free app, which provides personalized recommendations on what credit cards to use for specific purchases. Kareo Bolsters Board
Irvine-based cloud sofware developer Kareo has appointed the former President of Citrix Online, Brett Caine, to its board, the company said this week, to help advise the company on market and product strategy. Kareo said that Caine was President of Citrix Online, growing it from $40M in revenues in 2004 to $600M. He also has served at Openwave Systems, Software.com, and Clarify Inc. SCE Plans Giant Energy Storage Battery In Tehachapi
Southern California Edison said Wednesday that it is planning to build what it says is the largest, battery energy storage project in North America in Tehachapi. According to SCE, the project--being partially funded by the Department of Energy--will store 32 megawatt hours of energy storage in Tehachapi, California, and will be used to store wind energy generated from the wind farms in the area. Nimble Launches New Android App
Santa Monica-based Nimble, the business contact management software developer led by Jon Ferrara, said today that it has launched a new app for Android. Nimble said its new Nimble Smart Contacts app helps gather contact details, insights, email, social conversations, and other data into a single, mobile app, pulling data from Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, AngelList, Instagram, Foursquare and more about business contacts.

AssetAvenue Bolsters Executive Team
Los Angeles-based online, commercial real estate peer to peer lending site AssetAvenue has named a new executive, saying that Eddie Prosser has joined the company as its Senior Vice President of Real Estate Investments. Microsemi Loses Mazzo From Board
Aliso Viejo-based Microsemi said late Wednesday that James V. Mazzo--the former CEO of Advanced Medical Optics--has resigned from the company's board. Microsemi did not say why Mazzo decided to leave the board, but said the resignation "did not arise as a result of any disagreement on any matter relating to Microsemi's operations, policies or practices."
