Hulu Adds Discovery's MythBusters, Deadliest Catch
Los Angeles-based streaming television site Hulu is continuing to extend out its catalog off titles, saying this week that it has inked a deal with Discovery, to feature subscription, video-on-demand access to such titles as Deadliest Catch, MythBusters, Say Yes to the Dress, Treehouse Masters, and more. Ring Gets $7M For Smart Doorbells
Santa Monica-based Ring, the smart doorbell startup led by Jamie Siminoff, has raised $4.5M in equity and another $2.5M in debt financing, the company disclosed Wednesday. The company--formerly known as Doorbot--said the Series A financing comes from True Ventures, and also included First Round Cpaital, Queensbridge Venture Partners, Upfront Ventures, and angels. March Capital Partners Backs Appcito
Santa Monica-based venture capital investor March Capital Partners--the new investment firm led by longtime Southern California venture capital veterans Jim Armstrong, Sumant Mandal, Gregory Milken, and Jamie Montgomery--has made an investment in cloud application infrastructure developer Appcito. Conversant Becomes Part Of Alliance Data After $2.3 Billion Deal
Westlake Village-based online advertising company Conversant--which until recently was known as ValueClick--is now officially part of Alliance Data, after the completion of Alliance Data's acquisition deal with the company. The deal was worth $2.3 Billion, and had been announced initially in September. Los Angeles Sues Uber Over Background Checks, Advertising
Los Angeles has joined with San Francisco to sue on-demand ride service Uber, alleging that the company's background checks are "completely worthless", because the company--although it conducts background checks--does not fingerprint its drivers. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, they have filed a lawsuit against Uber for making false and misleading statements to consumers. NextVR Powers New Coldplay Virtual Reality Concert
Laguna Beach-based NextVR, which is developing virtual reality capture technology aimed at bringing rock concerts, sporting events, fashion shows, and other events to users via immersive, virtual reality, said it has released its first, content release. Broadcom Ups Revenue Guidance, Dividends
Irvine-based Broadcom said Tueday that it is raising its revenue guidance fro the fourth quarter of 2014, saying it now expected revenues of approximately $2.075 to $2.150 billion, and also increased its dividends and stock buyback efforts. According to the company, it is increasing its quarterly dividend by $0.02 per share, and has authorized $1 billion in share buybacks in 2015. PTI Marketing Technologies Acquired By Ricoh
Solana Beach-based PTI Marketing Technologies, a developer of a software-as-a-service, marketing and collateral management tool, has been acquired by office equipment and technology company Ricoh Company, Ltd.. Exact financial terms of what Ricoh described as a "multi-million" dollar acquisition were not announced. CrowdStrike Names VP Engineering
Irvine-based security and threat intelligence software developer CrowdStrike has named Amol Kulkarni as the company's new Vice President of Engineering, the company said Tuesday. Kulkarni was most recently at Microsoft, and had been responsible for the knowledge platform at Bing, and also had worked on Windows Azure and BizTalk Server.
