Flywheel Drops Fares In LA, San Diego To $5 Until April 6th
On-demand, taxi app developer Flywheel, which has been in an intense battle with Uber, Lyft, Sidecar and others in the LA market, said this week that it will offer $5, flat rate rides on its service in Los Angeles and San Diego until April 6th. LA and San Diego are two of the five markets that Flywheel is trying to reach out to new customers, along with Seattle, San Jose, and Sacramento. Superior Water Gets Funding From METRIX
Orange County-based water disinfection equipment and services company Superior Water Technologies has received a funding round from venture capital investor METRIX Capital Group, the two said Thursday. Size of the equity funding was not disclosed. Superior Water services the municipal water disinfection and treatment industry, including pipeline chemical injection and mixing systems.

Triton Digital Wins MLBAM
Los Angeles-based digital audio ad technology provider Triton Digital, which provides technology to insert ad into Internet and streaming radio, reported Thursday that it has signed a deal with MLBAM to deliver and monetize streaming audio advertisements for the MLB. Triton Digital said it will be the exclusive audio ad provider for the Gameday Audio desktop product and the MLB.com At Bat mobile application. Financial impact of the win was not announced.

Disney Creates Its Own XPRIZE
Walt Disney Studios and XPRIZE, the group which runs challenges aimed at spurring solutions to big issues facing society, have teamed up to create a new XPRIZE, called the Create Tomorrowland XPRIIZE Challenge. According to the two, the new challenge invites kids to imagine themselves in the future, reporting on the "one new and amazing invention or innovation they encounter, how it works, and the impact it has on the future." textPlus Goes Global With New Texting, Calling App
Marina Del Rey-based text messaging app develotextPlus, which is led by Scott Lahman, is going global, saying Thursday that it has launched a new free test messaging and calling app called Nextplus globally. According to textPlus, the new app allows users to send and receive low- to no-cost calls, texts and multimedia messages from any Wi-Fi-connected device.
