KARMAKARMA Takes On Social Rewards
Los Angeles-based KARMAKARMA, a startup which bills itself the "LinkedIn for Social Good", said today that it has launched a new platform to let users can see and track their social impact on the world. Media Temple Names New President
Los Angeles-based web and cloud hosting provider Media Temple has named Rod Stoddard as the company's new President, according to the company. Stoddard joins the company from Martindale-Hubbell, and also had served at US Search. He also has served at CNET. Stoddard replaces Russ Reeder, who left Media Temple earlier this year to become a CEO of iCitizen, a startup that is looking to help connect citizens with government. Virgin Galactic Accident Due to Premature Feathering, Says NTSB
The National Transportation Safety Board says that the fatal accident of a test flight of Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo vehicle in October of 2014, was due to premature feathering of the vehicle's braking system. The crash--which occured on October 31, 2014--resulted in the death of the co-pilot and serious injuries of the pilot, and destroyed the SpaceShipTwo. Kareo Adds $55M In Funding
Irvine-based Kareo, the developer of cloud-based software used to manage medical practices, said this morning that it has raised $55.4M in a new funding round. The funding was led by Montreux Equity Partners, and also included Silver Lake Waterman and the company's existing investors. Kareo, which is led by Dan Rodrigues, offers up cloud-based software used by small and other independent medical practices to manage all of their billing and operations. NantKwest Prices IPO, Starts Trading Today
Culver City-based NantKwest, the immunotherapy company which is linked to NantWorks and biotech billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, has priced its IPO, saying it will sell 8,288,000 shares of its common stock at $25.00 per share. NantKwest--which until recently was known as Conkwest--will begin trading this morning on the Nasdaq Global Select Market as NK. YP Rolls Out New Mobile Product For Business Owners
Los Angeles-based YP, the online business listings provider, said today that it has launched a new dashboard product specifically for business owners. Newegg Wins Another Patent Suit, Launches Sale In Celebration
Los Angeles-based online retailer Newegg said this morning that it has scored another win over what it called a "patent troll"--and has launched a 24-hour flash sale on its site in celebration. Newegg said it won a patent infringement lawsuit file against the company by TQP Development, which had claimed Newegg infringed upon a patent covering basic online encryption. RFaxis Ties With Silicon Labs On Reference Designs
Irvine-based RF semiconductor developer RFaxis has rolled out a new reference design with fellow chip maker Silicon Labs, to support a new Internet-of-Things application. RfAxis said its RF front-end reference designs connect with Silicon Labs' ZigBee and Threat EM35x mesh networking products. Those products are used in deploying Internet-of-Things mesh networks, and those reference designs are used by engineers to design their own versions of equipment which connects into those networks.
